Oops sold out. I’m going to try the Hilton Garden inn by the airport.
You can also look at the Embassy Suites which is a bit further south and across I-77 from the HGI and airport. We've had family stay there several times for college graduations and a wedding. If the stars all align, looking forward to potentially meeting a lot of you fine folks! I've met several at this show over the years.

Most of the top marching bands in the country share the same talent pool for design and instructional staff with drum corps. Often staff members recruit their high school students to eventually march the corp they teacher during the summer. Which is extremely beneficial to have new members joining with a familiarity of technique, and fundamental exercises before the summer even begins.
My highschool had around 2500 students, but well over 200 in band and guard. Those numbers definitely made us the most dominant group on campus. Band and guard was the "it" thing to do. We had a great band director (who actually was the founder of a drum corp from back in the 80s), and a ton of really supportive and dedicated parents. Our design and caption heads were paid staff members funded by our parent booster organization, and the techs were volunteers.
The bolded and underlined sentence is one that I doubt many of us would NEVER have heard BITD. Good to know things have changed, drastically in some instances.

They took me into the kitchen at the Skokie AL post and told me to play some scales for Imperials. I did on the bugle I’d never played before. I don’t think I had to do anything when I went to Guardsmen.
I learned to play on a valve/rotor in the cadet corps. Stayed on one until I got a two valve in the late 70s...which was after I joined the HS band and was given a trumpet at my first lesson (we had an alumni sponsor for part of their cost)...the instructor put some music up, asked me to play, and I looked at him and basically said "what the h3ll do I do with this?" 😂

Does the timer stop if ANY section of the corps is not in motion? If we're saying the battery stops up front for their feature and that stops the timer because they aren't moving even though the rest of the corps is, then I can absolutely see these numbers.
I believe they were basing their calculation on the hornline:
"Playing any form of notes on their brass wind instrument... "

Would love to see SCV do Phantom of the Opera for the third time but with modern sound and props.

Yep!
The brute force route would be to buy the top 12 blu rays from DCI.org. Their website shows they're still available, though of course, pricey.

Was it a top 12 performance?

Would opening the LOS roof and having an alien ship land at the end of the show be penalized? Might be worth it 😀
Someone mentioned opening LOS roof???
I must oblige them...

Yeah, I'm down for talking about Vanguard
Anyone else love Ouroboros? One of their most underrated
O.W.!! Good to see you around!
Parts of Ouroboros were amazing, particularly the ballad and the closer

Fave SCV show discussion portion of the thread? Yesssssss...
1974 – First time to ever see them. I was 11 at the time, a big drum corps fan already (my Dad marched in the ‘50s with St. Vincent’s Cadets) but it was our first time going to Championships and seeing a lot of the “big corps”. Every single thing about that Vanguard show enthralled me.
1975 – may well be my favorite Vanguard show. To this day when I listen to/watch it I’m amazed at what they accomplished in that show.
1987 – A feast for the senses. As someone else mentioned, heartbroken at them not winning (I actually smuggled a small bottle of champagne into Finals to “celebrate”…) but man, that was one special show.
1988 – A feast for the emotions. My preferred “Phantom” version as well. My parents came into town to go to the local show and by the end of SCV’s performance they were stunned.
1991 – Helicopters! Wood block thingie for marching feet sound! Traveled to the DCI Canada show b/c they were there; SUCH a gorgeous show.
Did not see them for a long time after the 1992 season (kids, kids’ activities, family…next live viewing was the 2011 show…which I really kinda dug for its quirkiness…) but like many others here really dig the ’97 and ’99 shows. In particular, though…
2003 – this is just a fun show to watch, and the “pathway” drill moves to open and finish the show were just fantastic.
2016 – Classic Vanguard from start to finish; the intro to the opening hit was – in my mind – perfect.
2018 – Just, wow. Got to see them at the Akron/Canton/Massillon show, so it was pretty well set for Championships and boy did it deliver.
So many other years – complete shows or moments – it’s so difficult to limit my choices and on a different day my list would grow or contract (yes, 1980 and 2009 and 2013 and 2015, I see you…) and still be an amazing assemblage of shows. They have been my favorite corps for almost 50 years and I truly wish for a positive outcome for the corps and all those associated with it.

We need a vuvuzela category for I&E, and this is the way to do it.
"What key is that instrument tuned to?" "Yes"

Yes, but only if you play "Crown Imperial" when the whale is flying.
"Crown Imperial" on a vuvuzela? I am SO in for this!

Finally got a chance to see the show w/ the tarps/phabric. Understated, essentially nonreflective, and very much out of the way. I kinda like it. Also, given the show theme, that opening move with the props really reminded me of:

Like others have said, the greatest overall company fronts were those of Cadets, for me Madison is a close second. My goosebumps moment would have to be SCV’s performance in Lawrence, MA in 2013. It caught me by surprise and blew me away.
Though it’s not a strict company front but has company front features, 27th’s wheel always impressed me. I can recall seeing early season shows where you knew the potential but they had lots of work to do, 1979 in particular, but no matter what the wheel was always perfect.
Following some of the "toot your horn" examples...

DCI 2024 SCHEDULE
in DCI World Class Corps Discussions

Dave was a great guy. I was in the cadet corps in '74 which was - by and large - "absorbed" into the main corps starting in '75.
