she's here with me.
and we both think this contest is great!

I wish you would repost them.......I would like to see what they are.
Heres the thing. Most people who are against WW in drum corps want to preserve the idea of a big powerful all-brass ensemble. Is there something wrong with that ?? It bothers me to keep reading over and over from pro-WW folks (Your not the only one....) about "Oh...the activity is closed off to folks who play woodwinds.
How many types of musical groups are available for WW players to belong to ???
How many types of musical groups are availabe for people who want to play in an all-brass ensemble ????
There are at least twice as many musical groups for WW players to participate in as compared to people who want to play in an all-brass group.......
Triple Forte
i know, all those poor tenor players being left out of symphonies. how dare those symphonies discriminate against battery percussion people
(sarcasm off)

i play drums :P

one question:
since most judges own their own recorders, and they can be bought for $30 or less, will the judges be on the hook for this new stuff?
for a circuit like DCI that runs up to 4/5 shows a night, supplying this for each show to run cant be cheap either
-
speaking of parades...are ya"ll going to Wildwood this weekend?
Hey Scott...you in your new shack yet?
not going much of anywhere...packing for the new house
-
1977 had "DCA West" for 11th and 12th. Both MBI and Chicago Connection made the album and that just had people buzzing about all that Senior Corps "way out there".
79 too

Larry, you misread what I wrote.
What I meant was, Sky scored lower in FINALS than Carolina Gold's score was in PRELIMS.
apples to oranges. different day, different panel

Baltimore Yankee Rebels rehearse in the Baltimore suburbs of Rosedale and Dundalk. Not too much in Baltimore itself anymore since we are no longer associated with Hamilton Post 20 which was located in the city of Baltimore. Our annual indoor show is held in another Baltimore suburb of Parkville, Md.
what happened with the Post?
-
yeah it pretty much went bye bye
-
well we've seen my opinion shared more than yours.
-
I have not seen 'creatively stifled' staffs. Sometmes things are just plain good ideas...amps...amplified voice...WW...electronics...being four prime examples.
yowza. yet these great idea you cite already in place are causing more fan dissension than Star 93 did
-
Where has THAT happened? I have yet to see one 'hole' shot through the 'amps proposal'.
BTW...it is no longer a "proposal"...it's part of the drum corps activity.
it happens in every thread on the topic, you just choose to ignore it
-
Except there are thousands of flute players, clarinet players, sax players who already march...and may want to march with the best in the world...it's not that big a deal to add them to drum corps, esp in a new division.
and there are millions of baseball players who may want to play football...do we change the sport entirely for them? no we do not
-
all concerns about placement aside, this is about discussing whether you performed before fans, or like Shore in 76, you just played to the mics
-
back to the 80,s, as far back as i can remember, everyone performed a pre show exhibition before the fans
-
Sure it is, as that is where drum corps has been moving for half a century or more.
that doesnt make it evolution. that says that the powers that be are so creativly stifled that they cant think of anything else and have to add new toys to make things work.
-
There wasn't a F*CK NO! option, so I just went with no.
#### guidelines :P
-
My apologies on poor posting Jeff.
My comment was meant for MikeD, who indeed hasn't provided an argument worth listening to.
neither has Hopkins, who proposes it constantly...doesnt stop him. ####, we still see the amps proposal being shot full of holes daily
-
The WW players who would audition are not any less motivated than the current brass and percussion players who audition. They would just have an equal opportunity.
It's not a matter of 'have to'...it's a matter of whether it is a good idea. It is...whenever it happens, which is a long way away, IMO.
I think we'll see electronics like guitars and pianos long before WW.
at some point you have to draw a line and remember you cant be all things to all people. after all, i dont see baseball players hitting footballs and basketball players dunking hockey pucks
-
You marched over two decades ago. It was a different world than today. I don't think many flute players can walk into ...say...a Regiment camp with no trumpet training and make the trumpet section in this day and age.
just like you dont often see a great lacrosse player just walk in and become a starter on the hockey team.
not everything is made to be everything for everyone
-
And if you ARE a flute player in a MB who wants the summer experience drum corps offers today to brass/percussion....too bad...or...add to what drum corps currently offers by adding WW.
or find a summertime marching band.
merging drum corps into a genre, like marching band, that already exists is NOT evolution.
-
well if it is a show long issue, it should be. now with the new rules change that people off of the field can adjust balance, there should never be an issue.
if there is tho, it should be noted and be reflected in the number
-
pardon.. :)
I used "legacies" to shorten the term "legacy fan" :sshh:
I thought that was more polite then "old timer" ^0^
except now people in their 30's are classified as legacy fans.
i'm no old timer, but according the classifications used today, i AM a legacy fan
-
Wow. Just wow..I'll pick this one apart. Man..do I get tired of the bashing done by the legacies.. <**>
They have training as judges, education, and a modicum of skills. That's how.
Your opinion does not define drum corps, nor does mine. Don't come to shows. We won't miss you. Enjoy going to DCA! (even though they use...gasp..B-flat instruments!!!)
I am thankful that John was the buyer too, and that Dixon DIDN'T sell to you! Your reputation proceeds you.
You know what Lou, I doubt he gives a ####. He has done more for drumcorps in a day then you have done in your whole life. GH is no boy scout, I will admit that..(so would he, i'm sure) ..BUT..
The difference is he doesn't need to attack someone on the Internet to make himself feel big. If he needs an ego trip he can go look at his DCI Championship trophies. b**bs
Sure..make yourself feel good after character assasination. <**>
wow. the irony is astounding in here

maybe the cost on a grand scale...factoring in purchasing ipods etc hasnt gotten cheap enough yet?
not everyone owns an ipod and not everyone takes laptops and burners etc on tour with them
