  1. and...so sad. i enjoyed so many shows. i had students march there. friends march and teach there. friends kids march there. one of the best days for me as an educator was the day before hershey in 98 watching Aungst and company work the drumline at Mechanicsburg HS for several hours. i learned so much watching and listening.

they zigged. they zagged. hell they zugged. their Allentown performance in 18 will be burned in my brain forever. But in the end, the past caught up with them. i hope other teams throw in Zpulls this summer just cause

    Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo.................

Any chance the DCP admins will bring back the thread they removed of my pointing out Cadets were in regulatory violation of state law by failing to register as a charity?

message one and ask. moot point now.

I get that people are mad and upset. But the - she got what she wanted - they got their pound of flesh- stuff is ridiculous. What “she wanted”, I’m pretty sure, was to not be sexually molested. And then have to live with the stigma and victim blaming over the past 40 years and even up to this minute. So, yeah, let this be a warning to all those corps that still exist. DFTK. Perhaps this is the message that’s needed. Have you corps received it loud and clear??

    well said. thank you

He was actually named in the lawsuit, (statement #35 I think), of having knowledge of the incident & took no action.  I think he may have been the assistant director at the time. I posted about the statement last year under the lawsuit topic but dcp will not let me search.

i do believe he was AD yet at this time.

Fair point. But ultimately the plaintiff's lawyers had to know this would be the end result, right?

i think they wanted money, thats why they kept adding people and organizations. but let's be honest....as we continue to learn, it was a toxic place. eventually it had to catch up with them. everyone thought 2018 would be what killed the corps, but amazingly it lasted 5 more years.

i do wish board members that came on here inviting questions had been less dickish when asked the questions last fall. but in hindsight, my questions were answered.

Are the all-age corps required to have the same background checks as the other DCI corps?
How about the alumni corps who are doing exhibitions at DCI shows? I ask because a lifetime sex offender almost slipped under the radar performing at DCI shows AFTER the Nadolny series of articles.  Someone saw him and reported it to the Cavaliers organization and they  removed him from the group.  Midwest Connection, an alumni group.

These procedures take a good amount of time.  I had two background checks recently for TSA precheck and a purchase. Six weeks minimum. I passed, btw.

i hope DCI hasn’t dropped the ball again considering that they have two lawsuits pending against them for abuse.

they are required to follow all of DCI's policies on everything

from several reliable sources, now that the All Age corps are part of DCI, they follow all of DCI's rules on policies and procedures on everything, including background checks.

He didn't do it alone. There was a nominal Board of Directors at YEA all those years he was dissembling -with individuals and with their finances - and those BOD members never stepped in to investigate what was going on or create a culture of transparency. The YEA Board members thru the time of Hopkins' ouster were complicit in weakening the org to the point where they needed to close YEA down and start over, and, from a protection standpoint, the new org might as well have been a newborn lamb in a field full of hyenas..

they were lapdogs. They did what he wanted

I’m for justice for victims of sexual abuse etc, but it seems to me that the only outcome in this lawsuit and going after any entity with the Cadet's moniker would only result in this and thus they get nothing monetarily. This is not like going after a mogul or the Catholic Church with deep pockets. It’s a newly formed organization that technically had nothing to do with the very unfortunate events from 42 years ago.

Yup but the law said you claim the heritage you claim the baggage.

I’m not sure if this is related, but a few weeks ago I was talking with a friend who coordinates internships for college students. It was a general group conversation and one person in the group was a teacher who worked for a summer camp and mentioned difficulties in getting qualified counselors who are over 18. The woman who handles the intern candidates said she faced similar challenges and while most internships she steers students towards will have candidates, there are fewer applicants for more positions. Maybe young people in general are choosing to do different things in the summer months and it’s catching up with drum corps.

as i have seen elsewhere, the pandemic was a great reset for many people on many things. this may be part of that

We’re getting off topic here. What type of style do you think SCV will be pushing towards? Will we see a return to the aggressiveness of 2017-2019? Personally, I think the 2024 show will be a return to the punk aesthetic a la 2019, but hopefully with a much better foundation.

no clue. i don't see rehash

One of the reasons that the lower limit was probably a better decision.  I get 128 was because of buses but kids that could and would have marched elsewhere allowed even more advantage to corps better off or known.

well the thing is, per part of the rationale to vote the change in, 165 fills busses as they are made now. of course they crowed about more revenue too, but forgot to bring up more expenses

This whole forum is a small microcosm of everyone in DCI and, frankly, it is a place that everyone actually involved in DCI avoids like the plague. SO it is likely that the person who posted had no idea about this. It is possible that they weren't out to upset you.

correction. it is a place everyone involved in DCi avoids posting on ( with their real names anyway). They read. Religiously.

Many times the person running the social media account is a hired employee with social media experience who probably has no idea about these abuse allegations. They have no reason to know, and probably have no idea why a piece of music the corps has performed is controversial.

yup. just like cadets social media team releasing stuff about auditions only for hours later the corps inactivity ( using their words, not the actual reality) being announced. i get how some may be offended, but i'm not going to trash the organization
