so I have been kicked off of about 2 DCI related social media channels today for sharing a letter from DCI that he has been circulating  about him being put on noticed for trespassing . Lets go for a trifecta . Im sick of this pansy rear culture we live in. He is a predator and YOU are protecting him if you are banning me from circulating it. Bunch of BS

So to just play devil's advocate here, I know nothing about said letter or where you got it or what its source is but if I've learned one thing since 2016, it is don't believe everything you read on the internet. How do you know whatever it is you are circulating is true and not just the work of someone good with photoshop?

  2. While I hate their streaming issues. I'm guessing whoever directs the multicam is not familiar with the shows and doesn't know where to direct the cameras. Maybe its a local guy contracted to do it in each location but it is clearly someone who doesn't have good notes on where and when to look at certain sections halfway through the season.

Bloo has to win GE, and tonight that was the difference.

Crown is a GE Machine this year in my opinion. They will win as long as their percussion scores well enough to not hold them back. That has been my issue with their show design in previous years. Those few tenths in percussion will be a difference maker and it will be hard for them to win if they are scoring in 5th/6th place come finals week. However, SCV, Boston, BD, and Cavaliers may very well be better in percussion when August rolls around.

First you have to build the car, THEN you can discuss exciting places to take it.

It's a bit of a contradiction as you're saying they need to ditch the past, but you are also saying they need to be innovative because they used to be...

I think I get what you're saying, believe me, but they're just not "there yet"

I understand you. I also think those things started to get stagnant before the George scandal. Maybe even in coordination with Gino and Colin leaving. In any event, I will always enjoy hearing a Tom Aungst drumline. It is their strong point right now. I'd love to see them rebound as I've always enjoyed them. As I tell my own drumline students, Rome wasn't built in a day. I completely see how they need to rebuild from an organizational standpoint but I hope they can continue to evolve from a creative standpoint in coordination with that.

Yeah, don't blame Alumni for their design choices. Many have already accepted the fact that there's no going back to the "way things used to be." Alumni have donated and supported Cadets even before they knew what the "uniforms" were going to be. Many are just glad the Cadets are still around.

I agree with some of what you've posted, but given what's happened to them relatively recently, I'm willing to give them a chance. We'll see what happens throughout the season and further down the line before I start giving them a lot of crap for their design choices.

I think we agree in principle. I'm not hung up on uniforms. My point was I think you could have done the same show 10 years ago in the standard uniform and shako and it wouldn't make a difference.

Maybe I'm saying uniforms/costuming doesn't really matter but the general nuts and bolts of the design process seem very similar to something they would have done 10 years ago.

I'm not sure where you have been the last five years but the Cadets have been through A LOT

Want to help them get back to being "leaders in the activity"?

    Volunteer or Donate:

The Cadets - 10 Time World Champion Drum Corps - donate

The Cadets - 10 Time World Champion Drum Corps - volunteer

I know they’ve been through a lot. However, I’m not sure me donating my money or time will impact show design choices. I’m pretty sure they aren’t hiring me to be in the design team or are asking my opinion. However, as a spectator and a fan I can still have an opinion.

If their goal is to just be happy to exist and appease alumni who want it to be like it was “back in my day” for financial support that is fine. I’m just stating that in the big picture of things, I feel like what it meant to be a Cadet was to be an innovator in the activity and programming choices that pushed the envelope. I think they can do both but playing and moving fast behind a bunch of narration is a bit stale of a design concept and will only take them so far.

I don’t think it’s worth getting offended over but if they want to get back out of the bottom 6 they’ll need to figure out a way to keep up with the others.

should grow all year, especially as the feet locked in - biggest change I see needed is restaging guard a bit and of course working on the music transitions... Give it a month.

Good because that is about all they've got to get it right.

This could be an unpopular opinion but I feel like the Cadets are holding on to tradition quite a bit too much and not evolving with the activity. Cadets used to be the innovators who broke new ground. Now that title seems to belong to the Bluecoats and Carolina Crown.  I feel like they are still trying to be the Cadets of 2011 and before but in track suits instead of shakos.

I'm not seeing a show thread for this, so I'll post here.  Get well PR!!!

I'm not sure how a standstill is an abundance of caution since this doesn't really change any levels of exposure to anyone. They should just say they don't have enough healthy members to perform the show effectively on the move.

I didn't even see the vic videos get posted 😮

They went up right around the same time the Cadets videos were posted if I'm not mistaken. I saw those and a lot video from Detroit. They definitely struggle with clarity on the fast 3's and paradiddlediddles in the vic firth video. My guess is they are a pretty inexperienced group but I have no idea how many returning vets they have from last year.

They got about 2-3 points combined in music analysis and perc if they can get that marched to the brass and guard. I always appreciate the drill demand of Kevin Ford but maybe it's time to play the game and just do easier drill like others to clean it more.

I'm not sure the drill is their problem. Their lot videos and Vic Firth learn the music standstill videos are a bit behind in quality of the other groups. Maybe they are a young group. I'm sure it is cleanable and the music itself is pretty cool. Execution even standing still is lacking.

I completely disagree with your theory, but you are certainly entitled to it. I know my son had to deal with corps life last year during the height of COVID and things could change at any moment. I trust Colts staff to do what’s best for the marching members. To your point, there should be a way to send/receive items to your child. Whether in person or via mail, it should be possible. I’d keep checking with corps administration.

Just to be clear, I don't question them going to a bubble. That is fine. I just question the fact it seems hastily put together without a plan to allow for things like items to be exchanged with members. That was an immediate concern brought up in the comments by a couple of parents and the commented response back was essentially 'No." Especially for parents already in process of sending things or in route to give their kids items. You'd think a group that spent all of last year going through a bubble that could have been easily accommodated via an established work around.

  12. 14 hours ago, OldSchoolCorps said:

I totally agree with this! We have to keep the marching members/staff safe at all costs. If we want to continue to enjoy this activity, it is what it is. Every corps is dealing with this in some form or fashion. My son marches Colts and I know that had a few “mild” cases. If me keeping distance secures the safety of the corps, so be it.

Not to nitpick because I'm all for safety and common sense but if the virus is already in the corps and then they go into a bubble. They aren't protecting the members by going into a bubble, they are trying to prevent it from leaving their bubble.

If I wear waterproof shoes but my socks are already wet when I put the shoes on, what good is it that my shoes are waterproof Maybe it prevents some more water from coming in but there can still be leaks while I travel.

I'll be honest, I have zero knowledge of how tour worked for groups last year but I have to believe there was a method for parents to deliver to and receive items from their children on tour. Simply leaving a package somewhere and then letting someone pick it up should not be a problem. That transaction doesn't require a personal interaction. Tour staff has to take food deliveries or go grocery shopping to feed the corps. I'm sure corps admin staff interacts with show staff. What about staff that come in and out during the summer? There has to be a way for parents to get their kids stuff while limiting personal interaction. That is my only issue with what it appears they are doing.

It's not about people in stands. It's when people from "outside" want to interact with the members/bring them things. Covid is getting in some how and they've got to stop that. No one is seriously ill but it does cause them to miss shows and rehearsal for 5 days. The more you can prevent that the better the corps will be.

So are they completely bubbling for warmup and avoiding all interactions with show sponsors and event staff?

it is what it is but I’m not sure I like the idea of having members being sequestered from even the ability to have items delivered to them according to a response they gave to a parent.

  14. From FB:

    ⚠️SAFETY UPDATE⚠️
The health & safety of our members, volunteers, and staff has been our highest priority throughout the 2022 season.
In order to keep our members healthy and ensure we have as few holes as possible to start our competitive season, all rehearsals will now be closed to the public. Only those on tour teaching, designing, working, volunteering, or performing will be permitted in our “bubble.”
We thank you for your support and for your shared commitment to the health & safety of our corps.

And an answer to a question:

Q: This is great but will there be a contact person for parents to give or get items from their student.
A: That will not be possible until further notice.
