  1. The annual Interservice Academy Drum & Bugle Corps Championship was held

this past Saturday night in Denver, CO. The show was held as an exhibition

of the WGI Friendship Cup band competition at Highlands Ranch HS.

Here's the recap (Name - GE Visual - GE Music - Visual Performance - Visual Ensemble - Color Guard - Brass Performance - Music Ensemble - Percussion Performance - Total Score)...

I can comment only on Navy's show. We presented a show called, "Groove". The

opener was New York Voices "Baroque Samba" ala Xmen '90. The second tune was

a jazz piano chart, "Baroque Impressions" by Cyrus Chestnut. This segued

into an original drum solo, and then into "Moondance", by Van Morrison. The

closer was "Now or Never", again by New York Voices.

  2. Shockwave: Edgier, more contemporary than Blast!

    A review by Michael Boo

More than 4,000 theater-goers were treated to the premier performance of Shockwave, the new audio-visual extravaganza from the folks that brought us Blast!, on Sept. 28 at Eisenhower Hall Theatre at West Point, N.Y. (home of the United States Military Academy).

The 47-piece troupe is comprised of former drum corps and marching band members, as well as performers who never touched a drum corps or marching band field.

Judging by the massed audience reaction, Shockwave is destined to become ... Read the rest on DCI.org.

  3. For sale are:

$20 Cadets of Bergen County 1997 Contra

    $15 Phantom Regiment 1996 Mellophone

$10 Blue Devils 1997 Mellophone with damaged head (head came clean off - repairable with super glue and should look fine.)

Shipping is flat $8, but I make sure that they're in a well-padded box and UPS'd to you (with tracking!).

First people to respond get 'em. Period. I had a non-paying bidder on eBay, so these are available again. They're the white metal, 54mm minis that Forrest was selling.

PM me if you want pics.

    Thanks,

  4. Blue Devils this summer pulled off something that astounded me.

(disclaimer - was in a dome, though)

Was watching their show through Ragtime, and was thinking to myself that they just weren't as loud as they used to be. Rhythm Medley really wasn't doing anything to make me change my mind until the big reentry after the soloist. (Where the drums start playing upbeats.)

That little section, without a doubt, was the loudest segment I've ever heard any single marching unit play. Period. It was so loud all I could feel was the pounding drums and all I could hear was the distortion of sound in my ears. Until I listened to the CD's in August, I had no clue as to *what* they were playing in that part. Simply incredible - so loud that all you could do was feel it.

  5. Personally, I thought Madison's 1995 show was almost perfect. Well, their 1996 one, too. If you could combine the two and use:

    El Toro Caliente

    Bolero

La Danza Pasillo (or even En Fuego)

    Malaguena

    You'd be set. :)

  6. Last bump of this - I promise!

All auctions end Sunday, August 4 - so hurry and get your bids in before

    it's too late!

    Thanks,

    Mike

  7. Tim,

Great review! Reminded me of my first live show, too. (In 1996, got to see Phantom's Defiant Heart show. Wow.)

If you're going to Finals, you're not going to believe what you see. Consider Blue Knights, and that they're on the bubble to even *make* Finals. Only goes up from there. :)
