  1. Sure, I have done practically everything... being flexable is what got me into a Div I group. It doesnt harm them, like Shadow said.. each brass instrument makes you better at another one is some way, but with a certain period of adjustment. Playing Contra for a few weeks last year for DCA, I was able to go from playing Contra to Lead Soprano in an alumni group during the week and back again... It just takes practice and some time to warm up and reconcentrate the corners. I have even done mello on Fridays to euph on weekends and back again... If you set your mind to it, you can do anything with a little bit of work... if you are interested in marching Contra/Tuba... just do it!
  2. I also got attached this stuff this past summer! My mello bell got backed into during a pass through and left huge gashes on both of my lips. This all natural stuff cleared it up quicker than DCT even did even a little scratch. As for sun contact, BBW was the best thing I have found, after playing I apply (about every 2-3 hrs)... Every day, my lips feel brand new!
  3. Ive gone from Soprano, to mellophone in a season... ALSO Started on euph (to start a euph section at the corps.. and thats the only way the director would pull em out) So Euphonium, back to mello, then to Contra for the last few weeks to fill the hornline! NOW.. I just auditioned at Glassmen on mellophone They have already asked me to switch to Tuba Its not that crazy, just how good of an overall brass player you really are b**bs
  4. Hold a euph (or Contra) all day for rehearsal and then your mello will feel like a feather. But I understand where you are coming from. I have a bigger hand, my solution was to NOT put my ring finger into the 3rd valve slid ring, but to put my middle finger and to spread the3rd valve slide between my middle/ring finger.... That took alot of tention off of my wrist. As for the euph/contra.... it works, but I guess you just gotta be crazy to do that!
  5. I am currently using a GR 66FD, its a flugal horn moutpiece with an adapted trumpet shank. It fight in every trumpet I have ever tried, and It fits beautifully in my mellophones (both F and G) It has a larger bore, but a very comfortable rim. There are alot of sizes, so be careful which one to get. I had the luck to try out every size due to a dealer that I knew, I just picked the best suited. Dont crack it till you try it, the overall tone got darker, and the overall depth of sound increased!
  6. So basically what you are saying is,... Trumpi Alti Tubi Fluti I just dont get why, and I believe that the natural form of pluralism would turn to be Mellophones.. not mellophoni So in that case.. would it be Mellophones ??? And yes, I can see the Stan Kenton with the I for the iums part of it.. be who really calls it that anymore? If thats the case, why isnt it a Euphi? As for the Alto or Alto's - I dont mind that AT all, because thats the true voice of the instrument. Our one instructor, Dave Orser calls them that all the time!
  7. A few guys from the Erie Thunderbirds call it a "melli" ... I also so it on a post from a guy thats posting in the Blues Inc thread. So I was just wondering what everyone else thought. (It kills me at T-birds rehearsal when i was a "mello" at ES, but a "melli" at T-birds.. couldnt stand it)
  8. Which do you call your instrument? Mello or Melli? Personally I dont understand why anyone would ever call it a "melli". I can understand the old school aspect of it, but to me, its a MELLOphone! Show me one I in mellophone and I would understand. So if you vote for melli, please give an explanation!
