  1. Thanks for the info. We've been in their pool for 2 years. This year they don't have horns. They won't get horns until next year this time. So we have to do it ourselves. They offer horns as a lease to help you get on your feet. So we will still be looking for ones to buy. Thanks though!
  2. ummm....you can do whatever you want...it's a free country (for the most part anyway). Remember we will choose the one that best suits the corps. But if you win the poll you can have bragging rights even if we don't end up picking it....lol. We have our first rehearsal next weekend. We will show the designs to the kids and the seamstresses (mainly me) to see which one we like best. Whore away!! lol jk Chalet
  3. My name is Chalet Harris and I am the director of Renaissance DBC in York, PA. We are desperately looking for horns to rent/lease or borrow. I only need 4 mellos, 6 baris and 2 tubas. If you would have any horns that would be available for this, please let me know. We would need a monthly payment plan. Our plan is to buy our own horns, but we cannot afford to do so immediately. We are in PA, but we are willing to drive a distance (not to CA, sorry) in order to pick up. Any help would be great!! We will go either g or Bb. We will go 2 or 3 valve. If you want to sponsor a horn for us there will be information on our website on how you can help. We are a hornline away from a corps! Please help! Thanks, Chalet

  5. Being the director of a small corps, I can speak for our corps only, but I would say that Regional show would be enough for us. We wouldn't need to have a "champion". Just let us get out there so that we can have kids see us. As per the comment on not being able to be competitive below 30... some people are just looking for a venue for kids to perform in. We don't need to be "competitive" like a top 12 corps. We just would like a place to be seen and heard. There are groups, like ours, who know that building a program takes time. We will put out the best we have each year, but we will not be a top 12 corps. IMO we are doing this for the kids to have pride in something. If you want top 12, go there. If you want to grow because you aren't ready for that yet, come to us. There are all levels of performance. I just wish there was some place for our kids to perform in front of a drum corps audience. Do you know how hard it is to get drunken parade watchers to understand what you are doing? Most of the time they just want to hear Freebird. A drum corps audience could at least see what we are doing and at least appreciate it a little bit. Sorry, stepping down. Once again, not mad, not flaming, just wishing there were something to help us little ones learn how to walk. Thanks, Chalet
  6. There are now 9 designs to choose from. Feel free to vote for the one you like best. If you think you can do something better, you can still submit a design to director@renaissancedbc.com.
  7. Now that's funny. I like the daggers too, but DCI might not. this is one of my favorites so far. Original, but drum corps friendly. I could even see the major (if female, heck male if he wants to) dressed in Elizabethan garb like the queen at the Renaissance Faire. Like the logo too. Please don't forget to vote. The poll will be reset, as the webmaster said, so it will make a little more sense. Thanks, Chalet
  8. YES! Plumes are fine. Feel free to create whatever you want. What we were telling you before were just guidelines. Thanks! Chalet
  9. York was the official first capital of the US. The Articles of Confederation were signed here as they were fleeing Philadelphia from the British. We are also the snack food county probably of the world. (UTZ is located here as well as Martins, Gibbles, Snyders of Hanover, etc.) No wonder we are also one of the fattest counties in the country (that's sad, but true). They named Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby here. The York Fair is one of if not the oldest running fair in the country. York County is also home to Dover, home of the intelligent design stuff (I went there, but we just got Darwin back when I was in school). We are rural but close to Baltimore, Philly, DC and 3 hrs. to NYC. Bob Hoffman (weight-lifter) was from York. The rock group LIVE went to William Penn HS (York High) with my sister. I don't think we have any other famous people from around here. The York White Roses was a competing corps in the 60s and 70s. Hope this helps with some more uni ideas.
  10. Thanks for the creative ideas! We have some neat uni designs. Thanks and keep them coming! We also are having a logo contest, so send those too. We want to make new clothing, etc and would love to have a new logo. Thanks, Chalet
  11. This idea of a mini corps level, or something would be wonderful. I run a beginning drum corps. Just getting the name out is hard, getting equipment is harder, especially horns. Kids aren't interested in just marching parades. When you say DCI, they get really excited. Even if it was mini-corps, the kids could still say they went to DCI. Payment could be half or whatever. The DCI evaluation is a good thing in my opinion. If you go through the whole process, you will have the groundwork for a long living program. Sometimes getting started is harder than you thought it would be. I think more corps would be in existence if there was a venue for them to compete in. Our goal is to become a full touring DIV III corps, but if we don't get 30 members, all of the kids that came out will have nothing to do. We had that happen last year. It's hard to tell kids that have been working so hard that we can't offer anything for them. This year we are offering indoor percussion. They only require a min of 5 members. That way we ensure getting something on the field/floor. Once again, I'm not mad at DCI, I just wish they could have something to help the little guys do what we can. We don't want to tour. We just want to go to a few local shows. Even if we score a 2, people will see us. When people see that something exists, they are more likely to support it or want to march in it. It's hard finding people to invest in a program that hasn't been on the field yet. In our area, we used to have Garden State Circuit (NJ). This was great for little corps that just wanted to stay near home. It folded a few years back. Sorry, I'm done rambling. If anyone comes up with something, please let me know. We would be interested in participating. Thanks, Chalet

  13. Keep the ideas coming! We're liking what we see. Can you make the ultimate uniform that makes us just know for sure that if we don't use it we'd be crazy? Let's see what you've got! Thanks! Chalet

The indoor percussion will be staffed by the same percussion staff that helped bring Bishop McDevitt to their Best Percussion trophy at Cavalcade Open Class Championships last weekend. The indoor program will compete in TIA (a local circuit) in their independent class. We will also attend the WGI Regional in Coatesville, PA. Any person interested in membership should fill out the new member form on our website (www.renaissancedbc.com). Membership Day is December 3 from 9-6 for both the corps and the indoor. You must be 21 or under. You can choose to march in the indoor, outdoor or both! 20. Renaissance from PA is fielding a corps next summer. We will stay close to home and try to make as many appearances as possible within our surrounding states. As of now, barring some miracle, we will not be attending finals in Madison. Our goal is to get a field show out there. Last year we were a parade corps and years prior an indoor drum line. We have been blessed to have received newer percussion equipment. We are looking for horns to borrow or rent. If anyone has any leads, please let us know. We are asking the drum corps community to please consider helping us to meet the challenge of purchasing our own horns. Details will be on the new website on how you can help. (any info on LVK's stuff?) Our new website should be up by this weekend. www.renaissancedbc.com. More info will be available there. Thanks for the kind thoughts and words. We hope to see you real soon. Slow and steady is the name of success. Be patient....we're coming. ^OO^ Thanks, Chalet Harris Director Renaissance Drum and Bugle Corps York, PA www.renaissancedbc.com coming soon! director@renaissancedbc.com available now!

  23. Cool deal about Dtown guard. I talked to their instructors at the CD show a few weeks back. I gave some brochures to the director. I also sent some in the mail last week. The website "tragedy" is being addressed. A web designer I never have been. lol. We are fine on battery percussion, I think he might want a tech or 2 more. We do need a pit instructor. All of our positions are volunteer at this point until the corps is more solid. We also need brass staff. I have a tech for the winter, but I need a caption head and a few more techs. All interested parties should email me with their credentials and what they are interested in. We rehearse on Saturday's 2 times a month in the winter and then Sat/Sun when we get outside. Local is better... We are also interested in finding any key 3 valve horns that we can borrow or rent (rent to own would be great). We only need 5 mellos, 5 baris and 2 tubas at this point. Any info, please contact me at the addy below. email addy is director@renaissancedbc.org Thanks, Chalet
