  1. Phoenix Indoor Percussion is selling some of our old drums. We acquired new drums this year and are parting ways with some old ones. You can see them here. All prices are pretty firm but feel free to make an offer. We are located in New Freedom, Pa, 2 miles north of the MD border and not far from I-83. Would prefer that you pick up, but we may be willing to meet you half way (within reason). We can also ship them to you at your expense. We will have more drums in various states of repair and lots of parts. Let us know if you are looking for something specific (1990s forward), we may have it. You can email me at renaissancedirector@yahoo.com with any questions/requests. Thanks for supporting our program! Chalet Director Renaissance Foundation for the Performing Arts, Inc.
  2. Renaissance Foundation for the Performing Arts, Inc. announces that Phoenix Indoor Percussion will hold auditions on November 21st from 10-5pm at the warehouse in Mechanicsburg, PA. Directions are on our fb page and our website. Musicians should bring sticks, mallets, practice pad, water, money for lunch (or a packed lunch - refrigerators available) and should wear comfortable warm clothing and sneakers. The warehouse gets chilly, dress warm. Battery should be prepared to move. Phoenix is open to members 22 and under who do not have an indoor program available at their school. We hope to see you there! Email Chalet @ renaissancedirector@yahoo.com for more info.
  3. Do they still play themselves off of the field and troop the stands?
  4. Finals tickets SOLD!! Thanks! Quarterfinals are in process. Still have the Open Class tickets. I really hope someone can use these. Those kids work just as hard as the rest of them do and deserve a large audience.

  6. These tickets were donated to us. Renaissance currently operates an indoor percussion line and has aspirations of starting a drum corps here in PA. There is more information about us on our website (www.renaissancedbc.com). We will be revamping the site later in the year. Thanks for helping out a non-profit organization! The purchase of these will go towards our purchase of new drums! I will take payment via paypal by August 2nd. This way I will have time to get them mailed to you. You can request fast shipping, at your cost. I would recommend insurance (at your additional cost). We are located in south central PA, so maybe if you are close, you could pick them up. 7. Sorry, I should have said all US Regions represented. No offense meant at all. I've had friends involved with Kingston in the past. I always think of them as being part of the East Region.
  8. I have part 2 of the 1987 semifinalists in multi cam. It has Boston, Dutch Boy, Marauders, Freelancers, Colts, Spartans and the ventures. It was put out by DCI. I also have the full top 25 high cam. Brian Bucs. 89-95 97and 98
  9. I would also like to offer support and good wishes to your program! I'm the director of Renaissance Foundation for the Performing Arts, Inc. in South Central PA. We currently have an indoor percussion ensemble and will be fielding a parade corps this summer. Maybe we can help each other out in some way. We're located in York, about an hour north of Baltimore. Maybe we can go in together on the food stands at the stadiums that someone mentioned before? Would love to talk more!
  10. Although our time at Sky was short, Konga was the greatest example of what a Skyliner was/is. They have that tough outer image but inside are the sweetest people you'll ever meet. Sky has had a rough year. Please God, let this be enough and allow the ones that have been lost to help rebuild such a legendary group. On behalf of Renaissance Indoor Percussion and the Harris family, more thoughts and prayers are heading to Sky and his family. We have a special memory of walking our children and two of our members of our drumline around the warmup area of the Hbg show two years ago. They got to meet Konga and his colorful way of speaking, especially when he was remembering some now funny, but then tough moments. The look on our members faces was priceless. They were given a true gift that night. We'll have to remind them of that.

  13. We do this. It's tough to get a small group to do it. You have to make sure you make enough to cover the shipping. Our local grocery store does it independently though with no shipping. They'll deliver your cards to the store you choose. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Foundation Center! Go to their website or go to the library nearest you to use their software. It takes time, but if you're willing to do the work, then the money is there. We've been funded twice by a local arts grant program. They love us. They've never had a percussion group before. Also, look at the companies that your board members work (real jobs) for. They all have to contribute to non-profits in some way. Some companies have foundations. Foundations can be specialized (only fund women's issues, domestic violence, etc), but sometimes they offer more than one special thing they fund. Here's an example of a way to make it work for you. Verizon in our are will fund technology and other issues that change yearly. Drum corps is performing arts, however a corps may need to upgrade it's computer equipment. Write to the foundation with the full grant showing how much is needed, but ONLY ask Verizon (in this example) for the cost of the computer upgrades. I was told by a Verizon rep that this is a perfectly legal way to have another funder help you. We are going to write a grant from a foundation that is looking to fund programs that teach kids about healthy lifestyles. We just happen to be a performing arts program that can do just that. Check out Pew Charitable Trust. They are a huge supporter of the arts. Not sure if they cover all states. Worth looking into!
  14. Thank you for saying that. Being another start-up program, we've seen the effects of the "we'll wait and see" approach. That never helps when the real help is needed NOW. Since we're in the same boat, maybe we should chat. Chalet
  15. Can anyone verify.... Is this the longest winning streak for a corps? Bucs haven't lost a show since 2004. Is this a record? Congrats to BUCS!!! And SUN!! And all those who performed this weekend! Oh, and the Renegades should receive a special award/recognition for bringing Sky's honor guard onto the field. That was an amazing gesture. Having had experience with Sky myself, this was an amazing, amazing moment. Harry (Sr. and Jr., et al), Bring Sky Back!
  16. Contact the Hanover Lancers Alumni Corps in Hanover, PA. They have a bunch of 2valves they're looking to sell. I think they have 4 mellos. Contact Brian Moul - golfnband@suscom.net.
  17. Yes, but you can't have competed in DCI the year prior. You can exhibition if you're with DCI too, but to compete. You have to have been out of DCI for a year. That's the way the rule was explained to me (this was about 2 years ago).
  18. I agree. I marched with Reading in the late 90s. I was in my early college years. We were a pretty tame corps at that point based on other stories from other corps that I heard. When you have a group of youth working together with their peers, greatness happens. Kids need to learn how to work together with people their own age. It helps them with their personal beliefs about themselves, how to deal with people who are different than you, etc. Now, I did learn a lot from the grown-ups I marched with in Reading. But something about the youth working together just makes magic for these kids later in life. Also, funders are more likely to support a program that is geared to developing kids into healthy adults. And as stated above, the parents issue.
  19. Wow! Thanks for all the great replies! Here's the actual spot where I saw it mentioned. It's about page 3 or 4. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...02995&st=20 It was just a little tiny mention in another thread. The reason why it caught my interest is that we are located right in the middle of the DCA area. The div ii/iii corps are in short supply in the mid-Atlantic (Raiders, Surf - rumored to be petitioning for d1, Spirit of NJ). When the Garden State Circuit was around, we would have had plenty of show opportunities. Right now, Lewisburg, Annapolis, Chambersburg and Reading are all close to us with the NJ and NY shows being doable too. If I want to perform in DCI shows (once we pass all required rules for either group), I would have the YEA shows (if we were let in) and maybe a slim chance at an Allentown appearance (but a small d2/3 corps is going to get passed over for Bucs or Bridgemen easily). I want my membership to be youth. We have youth that need to be served. Reading is up the road. They attract a completely different type of marcher than what we are looking at to start. So a junior division would be ideal for my program. I don't know if DCA is even interested in pursuing this option. It would save me a lot of money on touring fees. Yes, it would extent the season which would be harder for college students. This could also create a more nuclear corps - meaning they all actually come from the same area. I was in college when I marched Reading. I still made it to shows. Thanks for all of the great conversation!
  20. Renaissance Indoor Percussion is in South Central PA. We could always use a hand. We will start drum corps (parade) practices in the spring. Contact me if you're interested. Thanks!
  21. I was in another forum and saw someone mention a possibility of a junior division in DCA. Is there any truth behind this? Anyone know anything? Thanks in advance!
  22. Renaissance is in the process of building into a drum and bugle corps. We're going to have a meeting on August 4th (southern PA near the MD border, between Baltimore and York, PA) with folks from the drum corps community who would like to help us see this dream into a reality. We would love to have some support from the DCA/Alumni community. A lot of us have marched before and we know how beneficial our experience was. If you are interested in helping us, please PM me or email me at director@renaissancedbc.com. Renaissance Drum and Bugle Corps will serve both Pennsylvania and Maryland. With Raiders moving up to D2 and Surf getting bigger every year, we will help to fill a void by fielding a D3 corps in either 2009/2010 (we will let you know how plans progress). For those who may be local - Renaissance All-Star Percussion will be performing at the Red Lion Street Fair on August 11th. If you're not out in Cali or at a DCA show, please come out and see us! Thank you and please consider helping us out! Chalet
