  1. I'm waitin for someone to rock drums like phantom did in the early 90's, where there was pretty much no shell i believe, just the hardware holding most of the drum together. I must say though, one of the oddest drum colors was phantom 02. I still remember the look on everyone's face when we opened those boxes up that day... ugh, mustard yellow, or as the box said "amber"
  2. if my memory stands correct, that show started at the end, and ended at the beginning, hence the "are you ready" at the end
  3. The Tampa area is against corps staying overnight from stuff that happened back in the Suncoast Era, corps were apparently just ravaging the place supposedly. I got my start in a corps in Tampa, we stayed at each others houses during tampa camps or drove down to Ft Myers where corps could sleep overnight. The only bad thing about FL for drum corps shows, is a VERY high chance of the show getting rained out. I think 2000 was the last time there was a decent sized show outside of Orlando that attracted some big div 1 corps, and yeah, it rained at that show. There's definately potential for some large shows in the state, it would probably help if there was a string of shows in Florida. Although, if Tallahassee were home to a show, it would be reasonable for the tour to go from Atlanta to Tallahassee then to the mississippi/arkansas shows, leading to Texas. It be sweet if DCI partnered with more large universities summer band programs. FSU in Tallahassee has a very large and popular summer music camp, which would be a great time for a drum corps show to sweep in, and maybe even pick up some hole fillers!
  4. Well, first there has to be enough fans in the surrounding area, enough schools to house all the corps, a stadium to rent, $$$$$, sponsors. Also, it would also have to be close to another show, such as atlanta or so. Since it seems DCI is leaving Florida all together it seems.
  5. So after a failed attempt at sleeping last night, I decided to throw in the 93 finals DVD (after reading page after page about Star). I get to SCV's show and remember reading Lee Rudinick's story about the corps in 93. If you haven't read it, here's the readers digest version: Corps has lots of change at the beginning of the season, has lack of veterans returning. Corps can't get it's act together for weeks, then finally snaps into it. Drumline adds "slow-motion" visual to drum solo, and wins drums at Prelims. Goes from being a complete wreck of a summer, into a pretty good one. Does anyone else out there think it's possible something amazing like that could happen with the Scouts this year?? I've yet to see their show at all, but I've been monitoring the scores daily. Discuss.
  6. myth: Magic of Orlando's equipment truck was seized by the cops after finals in 2003.
