  1. PPL Stadium in Chester, PA was a great venue for the YEA show in June. It's a professional soccer stadium, not more that 5 years old, with pleanty of parking. It's conveninet to PA & NJ interstates. (Just stay out of downtown Chester. It makes Rachaha look like Greenwich, CN)

I was gonna say....Chester PA isn't exactly the nicest of cities...Almost as bad as Wilmington.... *ducks and runs*

  2. I'd love to join, but $70 for only 3 shows? Yes, I know there is mini and alumni, but I'm talking about competitions. Not really worth it.

Now, if they were to even offer more shows that would be available later, like Wildwood, Bridgeport or Reading that would make it worth it.

I would love to purchase a subscription, but not for that amount.

    This.

  3. Not 100% sure I'm all that happy about the A&E aspect of this. All I can remember is 2004's DCI Finals of SCV's performance and hearing the pit pound through and covering the hornline at points - certainly not balanced by any perspective.

That said, if the judges give non-amped corps a fair shake vs. those who are amped, then there shouldn't be any complaints.

I also think that this is where it should end for DCA. No synths or amplified voice in DCA, please. I still cringe when I hear 2007 Cadets.

    Rochester? Meh.

  4. I never marched in a Drum and Bugle Corps - I was in a marching band and learned about corps because they were what we aspired to be. I have loved corps since 1980 after an incredible experience at DCI North in Michigan.

I look at everyone who does this activity with envy and pride. From the smallest to the largest most skilled group you are all doing (have done) something that I wish I had done.

I hear the stories about your experience. I pay close attention to the stories regarding personalities that have moulded you into the people that you have become. One can't help but be moved by people like Gail Royer, Bill Cook and countless others who have contributed so much to this activity.

I have every DVD ever offered not to mention countless CDs and MP3s (sometimes up to 6 different corps shows during a season). I buy the Fan Network pass every year and sit in on every Internet live broadcast I can.

Up until they stopped having a show in Montreal, I was always there. If friends couldn't join me, I sat in the stands, sometimes in pouring rain because it was my only chance during the year to see whomever came to Montreal.

Everyone who does/has done this activity is lucky - Every single person!

So please, if the Edge is going to do something like this I'm going to watch and I'm going to support what they are doing because I can't help but think how lucky they are.

The thread has been won, there is no need to continue.

  5. Anywhere you can perform is a stage, including a football field.

All the world's indeed a stage,

    And we are merely players,

    Performers and portrayers,

<$1 to Messrs. Lifeson, Lee, and Peart, look it up if you don't know>

I hope this works, and I'll watch and vote.

To the naysayers, why don't you give it a shot before you blast it? Or are you all of the "If it isn't DCI, it doesn't exist" mentality?

And people wonder why Drum Corps is constantly infighting.

  6. I'm sitting here just shaking my head. Last time I checked, most of you were adults.

Why don't you try acting like one?

The City of Rochester has asked that DCA comply with its noise ordinance regarding parking lot concerts. How hard is that to understand? If people complain, then the city is forced to take action.

If you feel THAT strongly about it, hold your concert anyway. When you're issued a summons by the City of Rochester for violating the noise ordinance, and fined by DCA for violating a directive from them, (And I hope it would be the whole amount of $$$ you'd receive for performing at finals), don't come crying to me.

Cause I'll just say "told ya so."

  7. I might be in the minority here, but I hated the Bach 3C mouthpiece. I switched from Mellophone to Soprano because that's where the corps needed me. I was told to go buy a 3C.

I hated that mouthpiece. I had absolutely zero endurance with it. Now, I wasn't playing lead (2nd), but compared to when I was playing mellophone, I felt I couldn't get through a rehearsal without my lips wanting to leave 2 hours before me.

I tried a Yamaha mouthpiece when I complained to one of the leads that my chops were crap. He's like "why are you playing on that?" He gave me a 14a4, which I liked a lot. Couple of discussions with other players and I wound up on a Shiltke 14a4a. It was a great piece, yeah maybe not a traditional soprano piece for a guy playing 2nd, but with my range topping out at 2nd line C, it was a godsend, and my endurance improved significantly. Would it have improved on the 3C? I doubt it, because I stuck with that piece for about 3 months, practicing religiously.

The next year when we switched to the Bb horns, I had it drilled out to open it up more, but I still love that piece. For *MY* playing ability, its what I needed, and I'd resist changing if I were still playing now.

  8. I'm sitting here reading this, bemused.

Lee and I haven't seen eye-to-eye on a number of issues during a number of occasions here...but, get ready.

    I agree with Lee. *GASP*

    *allows time for recovery*

I wasn't involved, the corps I was in wouldn't permit it, but if I were able to be I would have been. It was exactly what Lee said - Drum Corps people getting together having a good time. Disrespectful? Only if having a good time is disrespectful. Heck, the DCA I&E committee allowed them to compete knowing exactly (Well, almost) what they were going to do. IF they had tried to take the stage w/o permission/following the rules in place at the time, then the disrespect card could be played.

But it wasn't. The crowd seemed to enjoy it, the Judges played along, DCA permitted it...Fun times had by most.

If you didn't like it, that's your right.

But disrespectful at the time? Hell no.
