  1. Awesome!! There's nothing I don't like about this...except that I can't perform it.
  2. http://www.keepingscore.org/flash/copland/index.html I found this site gives more info on the creative influences behind Ballet for Martha. The more I watch this show, the deeper I fall in love with it. It's just so pure and true to the original ideas of Copland and Graham.
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEvcP-vXk4M Check out 6:25 that's where the current drum break begins. I never realized how different the ballet was.
  4. THANK YOU!!! Crossmen has (hopefully its gone) this crazy forbidden word BS. Granted I did say it once and the bus broke down 5 minutes afterwards. And then again another night and lightning lit up the sky as if on cue. But that is just a coincidence. The idea that a WORD brings down the ensemble just doesn't make sense (especially with ALL the other things that can hold a corps down). I also heard from other corps members that the Glassmen shield changing every year is PARTLY due to some superstitious thing, but I never had the courage to follow through with asking Brian. It's ironic that even though I poke fun at superstitions, I have my own preperformance superstitions.
  5. I didn't think that Xmen and vampires (if that's actually what they're going for) could mix, but after watching a youtube vid I have to say I'm very pleased with the way this show is going.
  6. Have they announced what this show is actually about?? Due to the poster, music, and Guidry saying "Love bites" in that official interview, I'm guessing this is about vampires. Can anyone confirm?
  7. Whether or not the show is completely on the field, a corps should have an appropriate ending on any early show day. If you have 3/4 movements done then please end on the third movement. Anything else just looks sloppy.
  8. I agree about the medals. They are symbol of personal achievement and I proudly hang all of mine on my wall. I don't think they're a consolation for not placing top three. Making finals is not easy these days and I think that the 13th-15th place corps can testify to that. I don't see what the big deal about ties are. I remember 2000 Finals retreat where the crowd just chanted "No more ties!" but when you look at Cadets or Cavies from that year, its difficult to tell who was the solid champion. With our scores based on staging, performance, and judges' opinions, you're bound to come across some ties. Also why is there no hooplaa around non-champion ties? Ties can even provide a corps with another chance to perform their show like when Cascades and Mandarins tied for 17th in 2005. Look at some of the spreads we have now, especially between BD and PR, BAC and Gmen last year. Less than a tenth difference! Doesn't that mean that the overall performance was tie-worthy? BTW ties and non-top 3 medals are very common in fencing. There's always a tie for 3rd, unless you're fencing for every spot (which is rare). The USFA also gives medals at national event for fencers making it in the Table of 8 (quarterfinals). I've fenced at 2 national events and believe me, making it to the Table of 8 is no small feat.
  9. Cool crossover! Love that the Crossmen made it on the page too.
  10. 1. WICKED!!! ala SCV/Sky Ryders extravagance. 2. Pop culture shows -more movie/anime/video game soundtracks -more pop music in shows Considering the wealth of covers and remakes in pop music today, a corps should be able to find a song or two that works. For instance the band Keane makes awesome ballads; imagine playing Atlantic or Hamburg Song on the field.
