College of NJ (Trenton State)? West Chester University? Two places that have hosted both marching and and drum corps shows before…

Agreed that WCU would be rough despite the history. I went there about 12 years ago, parking felt limited, stands felt very cramped. Ewing might be a decent replacement for Glassboro, only about an hour away from there.

  2. 2000 and 2001 stick out the most to me because those are the first two years I experienced drum corps in person so those naturally stuck with me. 2010's something of an underrated year for them, I feel. And of course many of the classics from the 80's and 90's that have already been mentioned. 1989's a year that probably doesn't get enough love compared to their title years.

Wish I could remember who on either RAMD or DCP chewed me out for saying corps are one big “oh crap” away from going away. Just surprised SCV is this far along in trying to get back.

At this point I think it's fair to assume that any corps that's been around for more than 20 years or so has some skeletons in their closet (and no doubt some that are younger than that).

If what you are saying is true, it didn’t come from nowhere. The wounds were self-inflicted. In other words, and to be specific, if people are glad this happened because they had enough of George Hopkins, then that’s on GH. It’s not on those who are glad (using your word).

I'm not saying it is on those who are glad, and I agree that at the end of the day, the corps (no matter what legal entity is running them) ultimately has itself to blame for the toxic environment and atmosphere that it perpetuated for decades. The wording of their press release is one last spiteful, petty attempt at deflection and is reflective of that atmosphere, and if that's the way they want to go out, then I say good riddance.

Well, to be fair (thanks for that ear worm, Letterkenny), you could say that (not everybody will be sad they folded) about any corps that folds.

True, but I'm sure this one will have far more people who are glad to see them pass away than your typical corps.

remember a board member came here inviting questions, then refused to answer them if you didn't reveal where you got the info you asked about.

I don't recall as I've been less and less active on DCP for several years and likely missed all that.

But I'm also not the least bit surprised.

I get that people are mad and upset. But the - she got what she wanted - they got their pound of flesh- stuff is ridiculous. What “she wanted”, I’m pretty sure, was to not be sexually molested. And then have to live with the stigma and victim blaming over the past 40 years and even up to this minute. So, yeah, let this be a warning to all those corps that still exist. DFTK. Perhaps this is the message that’s needed. Have you corps received it loud and clear??

Agreed- even the press release is riddled with gaslighting and victim-blaming.

Is DCI Austin off the schedule too?

    I see DCI Central Texas, I hope it's just a placeholder 😭

Lots of juggling has been going on lately.

Tupelo MS is now a "TBD", Barnum show got moved from Bridgeport to Shelton, Pasco show moved to Kennewick (and to a better stadium IMO) just to name a couple.

Ok, so full disclosure I haven't been to a show since 2015, and haven't PAID for a show since 2003 in the pocket between when I marched and when I started teaching...

...but I had the urge to look into seeing a local show this summer, and was shocked that a show with 6 corps is $55-$75.

HAS THIS BECOME NORMAL? I can see a popular band at Roadrunner or MGM in Boston for that amount. I paid only slightly more to see the Postal Service and Death Cab when they were here in the fall. I'm seeing a slough of shows this Spring with popular groups and NONE of them even are that amount.

Needless to say, I'll catch the show online. Just kinda baffled at how crazy prices have become for a non-regional, small show.

Shrinkflation is a thing everywhere, DCI included.

I absolutely get the BD fatigue of them not just winning but doing so in a dominate fashion. No question they will be in full force in 2024. You look at their legacy since 1975 and it's....well unprecedented.

BD Fatigue is exactly the phrase that describes how I've felt about drum corps corps in general for the last 10-15 years. And I think it's seeped into more than a few corps at this point as well as far as trying to come up with anything that could actually compete for 1st place.

  11. It's not bitterness or saying it's unearned or undeserved- more of an acknowledgement of the seemingly perpetual disparity between what BD rolls out with every year and what every other corps brings out, as well as the lack of overall competitive parity at the top that's been the environment of DCI for the last 10-15 years.

To have any other expectations for this season, or any given season for the foreseeable future, would be wishful thinking at best or being in denial at worst.

And yes there's a lot of time between now and August but realistically speaking, it would take something along the lines of multiple major staff departures or a sudden unforeseen and unexpected drop in finances or recruiting, and none of those are anything that should be expected to happen anytime soon.

New day heading towards a new season. Out with 2023 drum corps season, moving on to 2024. But before i look forward i and many of us still have many days ahead to still reflect on the Incredible 2023 season; on all the shows that was produced and performed.

The level of talent across the board was impressive, the competitive nature of the young members were fierce and magnificent to watch. The return and battle for 12th in top 12, the rise of The Mandarins from previous 10th place to 6th. The return of Cadets, The resilience of Cavaliers, The battles of Troop, BS, Colts. The incredible designs and battles between Phantom, Mandarins, Cadets. The Spectacular show down of the top 4; BAC, BC, CROWN, BD was unmatched and thrilling, and the 21st victory of the BD Undefeated streak from 2022 to 2023, technically they haven't lost a show since finals 2019, which is another record in the history books.

What would ya'll like to individually like to see Blue Devils explore for the 2024 show.

Should it be a conceptual, and what kind of concept ?

Should it be purely musical, and what musical genre would you like for them to explore ?

Should it be another arts show ?

Should it be light heart , or Dark themed ?

    Should be Story telling ?

Doesn't really matter, they're going to do whatever they want and win regardless of what they do.

Hell, they could do a full "4:33" show, no playing, no movement whatsoever and still get at least a 96.
