  1. I mean it was like a MILE from my house, and I bagged it! (I was about ready to call Derry Twp because of the noise!)
  2. I knew that... but you assume I want to come see these sorts of things...
  3. I remember the old Ballantines! My grandparents ran an old grocery store up in Elmira, and my father used to bring cases of mixed beers back home...my brother used to collect the old tap handles, and signs that they got rid of as well... (a lot of them got ruined in the 1972 flood) What's also interesting was that my father used to export "Stegmaiers" from the Wilkes Barre area ack then, since it was his "local" beer growing up...who knew that it's technically a "micro-brew" and he was ahead of his time! (and it really isn't a bad beer!)(they still make it) Yeah, we used to experiment with all kids of stuff...I got some Carlsberg Elephant a few times, and Colt SILVER which had more alcohol content. it was funny watching Bowser try to drink that stuff...he was the biggest lightweight in the world when it came to drinking.... But I remember drinking the Labatt's in Olympic Stadium during DCI finals, and Molson Export at the hotel! (which was the first time I legally ever sat at a bar and drank)
  4. Imagine if we had that stuff BITD! (along with cellphone cameras) I remember when we were drooling over the beer that L'Odysee brought down to help "defer their expenses"! THAT stuff was powerful, and not even close to some of the stuff available today!
  5. There are a LOT of stories I'll only discuss over beers....and after a few so people don't remember them the next day (Tröegs night anyone?) (Maybe when Mad Elf is on the tap list!)
  6. That's still classic stuff! Been listening to a lot of Frank lately...Roxy and Elsewhere is being re-released shortly...but I think just the whole Roxy show this time.. Been chatting with Ed Mann on Facebook, off and on.. pretty approachable with questions...said he didn't mind answering them, he's writing his "memoirs" and the questions bring back some of the memories..... Next month going to the Sting/Paul Simon show in Hershey....gonna finally get to see Vinnie Coliauta LIVE!! (he's playing in Sting's band)
  7. Good to hear! Those guys are out in the middle of no-freaking-where, and they got no respect BITD! In fact, I didn't hear of them until I got the "substitute" teaching gig!
  8. See what I started? hahaha! It was just a stop.... Not even sure if that band director made it to the next year or not...He was a "substitute" for something that went wrong with the prior band staff at that point. never really DID find out what happened. The funny thing was that we were in a show together, and they ended up beating MY band (which was pretty bad) that night... My band director came up to me and said "was that your name I heard when they announced Biglerville?" I said that it was... he shook his head and walked away. Which pretty much started our dislike for each other...
  9. Biglerville was actually my first teaching gig, I was still in high school at the time, and their band director (and staff) left after some dispute...when they hired a new one, they needed a drum instructor to keep the line in check, and one of the band parents worked with my father. She knew my drum corps history at the time, and asked him to ask me if I'd go out there and keep them in line, so I did...(this was like 1980-81-ish)
  10. Boom is a Tröegs fanatic! (one thing she has going on!) We need to meet over there one night...
  11. Did "Krista" show up? So how WAS practice? I was stuck out of town, so I couldn't make it.
  12. I think we were I think we were singing: "Larry Hershman walks on waterrrrrrrrrr..........."
  13. So what happened to Toomey? Was this a surprise, or did people know this was coming?
  14. I remember once we had a "substitute" driver for a trip, and it was a guy that usually drove my high school band. They pulled up at CV, and we started loading our stuff and he looks at me and goes "you're in this, too?" I said "yep!" So the weekend goes on and it's the usual fun and frivolity...I said "see ya" to him and left it at that... The next band season comes and the first time we needed busses, and he's driving...he pulls me aside and goes "you aren't bringing beer on this bus are you?" I go "are you serious"? he said..."well you never know with some people" I said, "no, this is different" but from that point on, he was skeptical of me.
  15. I have to figure out a way to get them to you... I STILL think there's another tape hiding somewhere, I seem to rememberr Billy Kauffman handing me a tape after finals in 1983... I have boxes of cassettes, in my back room, and God knows what's on them... I used to send my tape recorder with my mother whenever she went to a show, some came out nice, others came out like crap. Yeah, saw the obit on George, what a shame, he was a great guy! He also knew where my father lived, and would stop by and say hi occasionally if he was out on the porch. I'd see my dad and he'd go "Guess who stopped by? GEORGE!! He asked about you and said to say hi!" This was in the years after I stopped seeing him at the bar, which was the Susquehanna Crab Shack...GREAT food there, too! It was funny, the first time I saw George there, I just ran in quick to grab a six, and he was sitting at the bar. I didn't notice him and he said "Valdaree Valrarah!" I looked over and we started talking, he bought me a beer, and I sat there for a while shooting the #### with him...and said where I was going, he said "go get him!" So I ran over grabbed Bowser, and we made it there occasionally to see if he was there.
  16. Found it....1982 Percussion EX..Bob O'Connor! I also found 1983 GE Percussion Jim Mallen from 7/16 at the Grand Prix O'Connor's tape sound decent, Hits a lot of stuff, but misses some blatant things! Mallen's is mono, and ok...can't hear the corps that well
  17. I still need to find the EX tape from 83 finals...now where is it??
  18. Hey Jeff...saw Wyoming Area's band practicing yesterday (wife was at a function across from where they were rehearsing) so when I saw them, I wandered over and caught their last run through...tiny little band, but pretty talented! Show appears to be called "This Just In" and has snippets of spoken headlines strewn throughout their show. Was wondering if you are seeing them, or have caught them yet? I ran out of there because 30-odd years ago I attended one of their practices, and my life changed forever (met my future wife)(yikes!) Didn't want to take any chances on life changing events again given the nature of their show!
  19. He's still alive? Haven't seen hide nor hair of him in ages! Although I'm invited to a party that he'll probably be at..but I won't be able to make it since it's a PSU home game. How's the old bugger doing?
  20. Heh...I might be finding out what work is again...I interviewed at my old company the other day, and it looked pretty good...won't know until November, though. I'm surprised that the Mrs. is going to give up her rides to and from work, clean house, and dinner on the table every night! (not to mention the ability to have me run errands for her during the day) I warned her!
