  2. Check these out! The actual panels that were on the field on August 13th, 2010! 1989 snares 1990 Drum Major 1991 color guard Please direct questions to the eBay seller instead of posting here. I do know that the rest of them will be made available within a week or two.
  3. I was in the room two weeks ago for the "jacket speech". Jim owned the room. I was in that same room 25 years ago, and I'll be there this weekend. I'm drinking the Kool-Aid. It's nutritious and delicious.
  4. • Quinto and Conga (11" and 11.75") • 30” tall • Solid Oak • Brand new Evans heads, also the original goat heads included • Chrome hardware with the "Valje" stamp • 2 chrome LP "Collapsible Cradle" stands with leg extensions for standing players, fully adjustable. Drums were purchased in 1990. They are PRISTINE with only some tiny dents. There are no discernable cracks or scratches in the finish. The stands are in very good shape with a little pitting and some wear on the rubber pieces. $800 or best offer They are in Indianapolis, so if you are visiting for BOA or PASIC you may pick them up then. Check out the full album at my Picasa album.
  5. Due to personal emergency, the Blue Stars must find replacements for two interns. Two weeks is a minimum term, with the remaining tour being the ideal commitment. These individuals help with tour details, run errands, push marimbas when needed, help build props, grocery and clinic runs, and basically be the hands and feet that the corps director and tour manager need on tour. You get to see all of the behind the scenes activity and help the management team with the daily operations of the corps, along with being front and center with the drum corps at all of our competitions. This is a great opportunity for a music education student to watch how a world class drum corps gets down the road. This experience may be used on their resumes and they will be given letters of recommendation after the summer, along with a summer stipend. Please contact Nancy Brown (tour manager) at 317-446-5138 or Eric (corps director) at 608-732-2469. Thank you!
  6. Well, there wasn't supposed to be a bari solo... Just kidding, Alan.
  7. Man, the busby gettin' no respect! From Wikipedia: Busby is the English name for the Hungarian prémes csákó or kucsma, a military head-dress made of fur, worn by Hungarian hussars. In its original Hungarian form the busby was a cylindrical fur cap, having a bag of colored cloth hanging from the top. The end of this bag was attached to the right shoulder as a defense against sabre cuts. In Great Britain busbies are of two kinds: (a) the hussar busby, cylindrical in shape, with a bag; this is worn by hussars and the Royal Horse Artillery; (B) the rifle busby, a folding cap of astrachan (curly lambswool) formerly worn by rifle regiments, in shape somewhat resembling a Glengarry but taller. Both have straight plumes in the front of the headdress. More history than the #10 can shako, I bet.
  8. All twenty of us will wear pink busbies, hop on one foot and play the calliope.
  9. After the Slingerland family sold the company in 1970, it went through many changes in ownership. In 1994, Gibson purchased it from Gretch and that ownership continues today. Production is out of Arkansas and they have "returned to their roots" by producing primarily drum sets. Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Neil Peart and Nigel Olssen all played Slingerland sets at one time or another (or all the time). It appears that they do not have a marching line, but it would be great to see them on the field again IMO. Check out Wikepedia for more detail.
  10. STAR UNITED is rehearsing today (Friday) at Victor High School in the Junior High Gymnasium from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Victor High School 953 High Street Victor, NY 14564
  11. I don't understand why these two entities cannot coexist on the same planet. What is so bad about giving musicians more professional opportunities?
