  1. Rehearsal went well. Looked over a new arrangement of "America the Beautiful" for starters. Then we worked completely through a Mike Duffy blues medley that included "St Louis Blues", "Summertime", and finally "My momma done told me!". The Seattle Imperials did it back in the day. Finally we started in on "Maleguena", and got thru the baritone solo before 4:00 rolled around, and we hit the road. Next rehearsal should include a couple of BD tunes. One from the 70's, and another from the 90's. It's just a matter of time before we take over the world. Watch out!

  4. We intend to perform at the Seattle drum corps show on July 8th. It may be our very first performance. Did I mention that our next rehearsal is next Sunday April 2nd? Anyone interested in attending this rehearsal should contact me at s.baretich@comcast.net
  5. Aww schucks, wern't nuthin. Thanks Tom. Bring your horn next time. I'll make sure you have a cold frosty one in front of you after the next rehearsal - WHICH IS ON APRIL 2ND, BY THE WAY! And it wasn't all grey hair. There were a few guys in their 20's there too - we would especially like to encourage the twentysomthings to get back into the activity, because.........like we like to say...... the music doesn't stop at 22! B)
  6. Our first rehearsal went GREAT! b**bs 25 horns. ^OO^ 5 excused absenses. B) 6 no shows <**> All in all, a great start. Get off the fence, and get on board, before it's too late!
  7. - - - - Hey, can you get one of those outfits in a 6XL? - - - - I'm a big cymbal player. ^OO^
  8. My friend Steve Riles marched Sentinels. Know him? Rainmen? Showing up in long yellow jackets might be a mistake. But we could tell everyone we are "Excellent Marchers". How bout' a nice Native American name like "The Whishkah Skookums" We have many Boeing employees among us. Maybe we can get our own jet. I can tell you for certain there is no chance of us getting permission to use the Brassmen name. That's all I have to say about that.
  9. Yeah, that totally came up as an idea, but "Puget" is not a very "cute" or "musical" word. "yeah, I drank so much beer after rehearsal last night that I totally had to Puget this morning" See what I mean?
  10. Yes, drum corps, in it's many forms, is alive and well. We hope to attack everyone really soon, so hide your women and children. I must compliment you on your "Gulf Coast Sound" logo. It's very well done. How did you come up with it? A logo is another small piece of unfinished business with us. We have been a bit wishy-washy on the name, so a logo has been put on the back burner. "Brass Attack" is sort of growing on me though. What do you think (anyone)?
  11. Hmmmmmm.............well we did change URL's a couple months ago, but the redirect is working fine, as does the website - at least for me. Click on my signature where it says !!SEATTLE BRASS ATTACK!! and that will send you to www.pacall.net. Honestly there has not been much new content lately, but look out for a major update soon with our 2006 season information. Good luck with that, and thanks for surfing our way. I often get the same problem with DCP. I reboot my cable modem, and wireless hub, and that usually solves the problem. Brass Attack has secured our URL, but a webmaster has yet to magically appear. One thing at a time. Look for it soon on a computer near you! B)
  12. Why yes we do. We have access to a beautiful set of matching Kanstul 3 valve bugles in the glorious key of G! Pretty cool eh? They have been generously loaned to us by the Seattle Cascades. ^OO^ This project would not be possible without their help. Viva la Northwest Drumcorps!
  13. B)--> QUOTE(RIK B @ Feb 28 2006, 06:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> FYI, we are the horn line for Pacific Alliance. Hope to see some new faces on the 12th. www.pacall.net Rick Burns B) Well yes, we are the same guys as the Pacific Alliance.......mostly, but I would consider the Pacific Alliance to be a different "program". Pacific Alliance is a Seasonal (summer) group that performs at Parades in the Seattle area. Everyone is invited, regardless of playing ability. We learn one piece of music on our 2 or 3 valve G bugles, and put it on the Streets with our drumline, and Guard. 3 parades, some pizza and we call it a year. We have had good success with this program. It's time to take the next step. The "Seattle Brass Attack" (working title) is not a parade corps. It is not a field corps. It's probably most like a mini corps, other than we will not be restricting ourselves to 21 players. We plan on kickin butts, and takin names. It is likely that once the "Attack" is established we will develop a subset. The "Open All Knights" (another working title) will be minicorps sized, and making plans for Labor Day. It's taken years of backroom negotiations, and political arm bending, but all the hard work is about to bear fruit.
  14. Here we go! Sunday, March 12 @ 1pm. - Our very first SEATTLE BRASS ATTACK Rehearsal! - At: Martial Arts in the Public Interest - N. 96th St., just west of Aurora in North Seattle. map link: http://www.mapionline.org/ click on "contact" Mark your Calendar!!!! More details to follow. Stay Tuned...........................
  15. Just move the party out west, Rog. If your going, I'll find a way. -Tic (apparently following Roger around DCP )
  16. Yeah, well I wonder if Kathy is really "forgetting". b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs Actually, that opens up a completely new discussion as to other possible means to increase the visual content of mini-corps performances. Let's think a little outside the ####### box. -Tic B)
  17. Mickey Oyama 1929-2005 It is my sad duty to report of the passing of a truly lovely individual. Mickey Oyama was one of the founding parents of the Seattle Imperials. She was an ever present mother to all of us, whether at rehearsals, camps, or on tour. Her cooking skills were legendary, and she could always be found near by, sewing, cooking, and doing what needed to be done. The grace, wisdom, and dignity that eminated from her could be seen on the field wherever and whenever the Imperials performed. Mickey helped to develop an organization that would be a good place to help raise her 3 outstanding children. The rest of us were fortunate to be raised up by her as well. We all felt her love, and her influence made us better people. She will be missed. Services will be on Saturday, December 4th at 1:30pm Japanese Presbyterian Church 1801 24th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144 Map Link: http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=Typ&tu...ar:regT:4:fbT:0

  19. Yeah, I can't imagine that the people are not there, you just need to find them. One of the first things we did in Seattle was to hand out flyers at the local drum corps show. Is there a show in Pheonix? I know that's 9-10 months off, but at least it would be a good place to get the word out to the local DC fans. Colorguard shows may be another good oppurtunity.
  20. Good. I don't think my amp fits in the overhead luggage compartment anyway. BTW - Tom, I didn't know you played chimes too! :)
  21. Wagner - Der Ring des Nibelungen It would take a set of major cojones, but it is absolutely full of dark imagery, and bad ### loud hooks. You could play out the cycle for years, or condense it down to 11 minutes. Would'nt be over till the fat lady sang.......... Literally. Here's a link: Amazon's page for Wagner - Der Ring des Nibelungen (Ring Cycle) / Sir Georg Solti [bOX SET] - with lots of audio samples
  22. Compete? And risk out undefeated record? :( How bout we plan a west coast I&E competition somewhere in Oregon. ^OO^
