  1. my ex father-in-law was in Europe during the war. he got a purple heart. he was cru's guard captain from 59-70. we used to talk about the war and when i asked him if he ever killed anyone he wouldn't answer. other old timers would never answer or say they didn't know. one told me it was to horrific to talk about. they were all humbled by the war.
  2. i was a hairs breath away from joining phoenix. but it was not to be. my instructor colin campbell talked me out of it at dinner and beers one night. we were at strebs steak house. and he bought!!! how could i leave. i had a lot of friends in phoenix back then. we may heve been rivals but my friends were my friends.
  3. steve was from rochester. he was a news man back in the day.
  4. well at least we now know we can do guess who if we have to. and we are not all in the weeds this time.
  5. you had to be a drummer to be his BEST friend. sorry but true. i knew the man.and you had to be really good to jam with him on drums.
  6. jenny was garbage beer. we always had it but i always looked for a store to get something else. and i agree about boones farm. wraped my lips around bottles of that . when i was younger i liked matuse. a real good rose. but couldn't drink it around the corps. it was always beer. and whisky. canadian club for me. those bus ride home were a blur.
  7. wow that was pretty rude! all i said is i thought they were crap beers. i didn't care where they came from. and for the record i really didn't drink jenny cream ale. so just because it was a rochester beer ya gotta say that ####? really? andy c'mon your better than that. for me i liked molson's golden.
  8. i dunno but that was crap beer. like Schlitz and black label.
  9. well i remember getting meals and they sucked. ya know airline foood. now it's nut's and a small drink. and sometimes ya have to pay for it.
  10. i have them somewhere. i need a while to remember where they are in this mess of an office of mine. and i just don't have the energy right now. i'm not having very good day's lately. i really haven't felt well. sorry. this crap about the golden years well let's just say mine are turning to iron.
  11. well look it's true. the reason you use open rudiments is to make it easier.
  12. and ray luedee had the cleanest lines of the day but he used and open style. less notes and got content. clean yeas. but doing less.
  13. that's why it's all screwed up. it always was. and i never got it myself. one set of judges said one thing and another said something else. if ya changed your show for a couple judges some others didn't like it. went through that merry go round a lot.
  14. somehow i think it didn't work well at first. but i never understood why it was put in. i know we never got credit for "what " we played. and that was always are big argument at the critiques. after we got flowers we still didn't get credit and eric told us to go back to what we were doing before............YEOW!!!! i think we were getting played .
  15. bucs were a dominant corps that year but sun and brigs and cru were fighting all year. and sky was sky, always lurking around waiting to take your feet out from under you. i loved their concert that year. a drummers dream. so buddy rich. parrilou wrote a great chart. sun was so progressive in those years. and corky had such a sweet horn line. WOW!! the memories this all brings. hard to believe it was 46 years ago. a lifetime ago. man. are we all getting old.
  16. yeah i never understood why they went to the content analysis when it was already kinda in the GE captions.
  17. i loved jerry shelmer. he said if it can be carried i want it in the drumline.
  18. yup. the GE caption changed everything forever. but andy execution was still very heavy. if ya sucked ya got killed. in 68 sky took 2nd in prelims at finals they took 5th. of course the judges changed places at night. we waited till 69 to get tose tymps. our fiend eddie reece played on that year.
  19. our drumline came to rise in 1964. we were a force for many years except my first year in 67. the instructor was colin campbell and he was an execution master. we hung in there well in 68. it's why we came in 4th.
  20. give him your email addy. or me. that should work.
