  1. Thanks for a wonderful review. It is interesting to read the views from three very different perspectives. I also appreciate your assessment of SCV's performance, but then I am prejudiced. :)
  2. Has anyone had a chance to write a review of the Murfreesboro show?
  3. A reply to NDNation. My son explained SCV's attitude to me in almost the same terms. He said SCV is more concerned about performing their show to perfection than with winning. That is a refreshing attitude in today's win at all cost world. I always told my baseball teams that I would be more proud of them if they played their best, even if they didn't win, than if they played a sloppy game and somehow lucked into a win. The thing I appreciate so much about drum corps is the discipline and integrity they teach to these remarkable young men and women. Regardless of who wins in Denver, this has been a wonderfully entertaining and rewarding season already. Thanks to each of you, who know music and marching, for sharing your knowledge and insight with the rest of us. But just to let you know I am not above cheering for "my team" SCV, SCV, SCV!
  4. So sorry that anyone had to endure poor conditiions to see this show. :( I had the pleasure of seeing SCV for the second time Sunday night at Jax State. We sat on row 4 of a closed stadium. We were no more than 20 feet away from the pit and at times the hornline. I am certain I have a permanent part in my hair from the company front during the closer. My Dad and Mom, along with several other family members, joined my wife, younger son and me to see our oldest son perform. My Dad leaned over during Madison's closer and said, "At least I can turn down my hearing aid!" When SCV took the field he turned to me and said, "I think I want to hear all of this, even if it is loud!" SCV has a great show this year. I do not understand how BD continues to outscore them. BD have great sop soloists, but the rest of the show doesn't do anything for me. Their train sounds would not even be possible without AMPS. Maybe that 's it. DCI is rewarding them for making DCI look smart to include AMPS. Remember how annoying those kids were at the Centerville show and teach your own children (when you have them) to respect other's while in public.
  5. As the dad of a former Magic brass member I must agree with the report that this show just isn't very good. I am not a professional critic or musician, but I do know dirt and forced effects when I see them. This show reminded me more of a jam session than a choreographed production. It was actually painful to see how far this corps has fallen since last year. Just before we left to see the show in the Alamo Dome, we watched the DVD from 2003. Wow! Magic was great and should have finished one to two places higher. I will always have a fondness for this corps becasue our son truly blossomed under Gino's instructions. I hate to say it, but Magic may struggle to make semi's this year.
