  1. If I owed a car lot and someone stole a car, but I knew that the guy that stole the car might like it enough to come back and pay for it to get all the special features for it and also he showed it too all his friends and they thought it was a really cool car and so they now all want to come and buy cars from me.... I might not mind so much. :P Not sayin' it's right. Just sayin'.
  2. So this is why it's a gray area. I suppose technically, it is theft due to the intent of the provider being that the customer is paying for only one live viewing. But if my assumption is correct, it is not *legally* theft and no one could be prosecuted for it, regardless of what DCI has in writing.
  3. Sure they can bring charges. Anybody can bring charges on anyone for anything. That doesn't mean that the law will side with the person bringing the charges. The question is to what extent is the property protected by law? Television shows are protected by copyright, yet I have the legal right to record them for my personal use. Based on this, I believe that right probably extends to streaming internet broadcasts as well. (edit for grammar)
  4. I'm not so sure about this. Just because DCI has it written down doesn't mean that it would necessarily be upheld by law. Now, I may be wrong on this, but I believe that it is lawful to time-shift (record) material that is broadcast as long as you are not breaking an encryption to do so. I don't remember the details of it, but there was a lawsuit back in the 80's over whether recording programs on a VCR was legal due to the copyrights of television shows, etc. The legal ruling was that recording (time-shifting) was legal as long as the recordings were for personal use (not sold or re-broadcast etc). Based on that, I believe that recording the stream is legal (regardless of what DCI says) as long as the stream was not encrypted and the person that recorded the stream is using it for personal use. But again - I'm not a lawyer and I could be wrong on this.
  5. You may be thinking of Preview of Champions in 91. Sky Ryders and Spirit of Atlanta tied for 12th in prelims so 13 corps marched at finals in POV that year.
  6. Clark Decker? Marched Sky Ryders? (Might have the last name wrong - I'm thinking of a snare who's brother Garret(sp) also marched sop in Star and also had previously marched Sky)
  7. Hey - congrats on Academy making top 12 at SA! Looking forward to seeing them Finals night! :)
  8. What fun is keeping a secret if no one knows you've got one? :P
  9. I want my... I want my... I want my A P D's (sing to "Money for Nothing")
  10. For those not in the know... our boy Krebs was the one wearing the bandage and it was not for GE (although I'm sure it didn't hurt). :) Eric can correct me if I'm wrong on details but he was hit by a car walking back to the school after Bluecoats' final rehearsal on the day of finals. He toughed it out, got patched up and marched the show like a trooper... err... you know what I mean.
  11. MYTH?: Blue Coats is spelled with 2 words? Sorry - had to be said. (BTW - even as a FMM Bluecoat, I've never heard that myth about beating Madison) Back to Star - you guys that marched Star - do you guys feel vindicated now that the shows that you performed that were so despised by the crowds are now held with such high regard, even 15 years after the fact?
  12. I don't remember if it was finals week or not, but I remember a guy yelling at a particularly quiet part of the show (which I realize is most of the show - haha) - "PLAY YOUR D**N HORNS".
  13. Wow. *That* unlocked some memories I didn't realize I had. I now remember being at Ypsi standing at retreat and hearing some in our retreat block chuckle also. I think (I hope) that we were laughing from the shock of hearing the crowd react that way and the audacity of vocalizing such a strong negative reaction. Like another poster said - we didn't get it at the time. By finals I was in awe. A memory that is *not* locked up as it is permanantly burned in forever is sitting 5th row at semis that year (after we had performed) watching Star and not believing the sound that was coming out of those horns.
  14. Ditto what R said from another Bluecoats alum. Crown has a great show (once again) and you guys are performing the heck out of it! Good job and congrats on a great night. Can't wait to see you guys live in Pasadena! Yeah - ditto that, too! :P
  15. Yes - I keed. Just some good natured ribbing of my pitser friends from a hornie. :P
  16. From your sig, I see that you were in the pit - so your opinion about hard work doesn't count. Pitsters don't march and they practice in the shade. I keed - I keed!!!! b**bs
  17. I hate to admit it because there is so much I don't like about the show - but I agree. I think they had the best performance tonight.
  18. I wasn't aware until tonight that the Flower Duet was played with sops. I was disappointed - I had imagined it being a bari or mello duet. <sigh> Oh well...
  19. I was close but not a winner: According to Google Maps, Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium is exactly 9 miles from the house where I lived when I aged out in 93. It actually kindof sucked because there was not really any spool-down time (bus ride back with corps members, etc). It was complete culture shock going from the pinnacle of my drumcorps career (DCI Finals, ageout year) with 128 of my closest friends and then being completely removed from everything back at my house 10 minutes later. Although I did sleep for like 14 hours straight that first night/next day - that was nice. :)
  20. So there's another aspect to drumcorps that you're not taking into account. Entertainment. You are seeing it as purely educational/athletic. You gotta remember there are thousands of people out there that *enjoy* watching drumcorps. If corps didn't tour, what would be the point? You might as well just enroll in any other musical education program. (Or on that note - why bother with music at all if it's only educational. After all - the whole point of music in the first place is entertainment.)
  21. Just curious - what year were you introduced to drumcorps and what years did you march (if marched)? The reason I ask is because it seems that most people's favorite years of drumcorps are the years that they were introduced to drumcorps and/or marched and then tend to not favor as much the years after aging out.
  22. Same here. I didn't mind the evolution of the bugle, but the switch to Bb's kinda bothered me. And then came the amplification which I was against but I allowed myself to keep an open mind about it. I was going to give it a chance. Well I've given it a chance and I think it sucks. All it does in my opinion is make the pit too loud, force the corps to pay more for equipment and make logistics more complicated (needs power, needs a sound engineer, gotta shut down if it rains, etc). And now the vocal stuff which I don't like, but it's not too bad if it's used sparingly and done tastefully. But not many use it in either of these ways. It seems that most are using it just for the sake of using it. :ramd: off
