  1. JFK was an honorary Boston Crusader btw.
  2. I was at finals in 1993 and don't recall Star being booed. I do recall the entire crowd chanting "No more Jackson" for about 3 minutes right after the rainstorm that showered the Scouts performance was over. I also recall the fireworks backfield getting soaked and smoke covering parts of Star during retreat.
  3. I lost my corps jacket in a terrible accident (it was thrown in a woodchipper) and so I'd love to find the two patches I had on it. Really any patches from 1993 would be nifty. I doubt anyone has one but I figured I'd ask.
  4. Oh yeah I can remember that. That was the show that ended up having no guard in it due to arrests for obscenity yes? :)
  5. I know that some of the newer corps might not have many alums who got famous but I also know that a lot of corps had members who went on to great fame in various mediums. For example: Scott Cuthbert (original drummer for Everclear) marched both SCV '83 (snare) and BD '84 (tenors) Chad Sexton (drummer for 311) marched with Sky Riders (I think that's where he marched). Supposedly Tres' Cool from Green Day tried out for BD and got cut shortly before he joined Green Day. I've heard that Neil Peart marched Kiwanis back in the day but don't know for sure if that's true or not. Anyone have any famous alumni?
  6. Non quoted responses time (yay): 1. Garfield lost a VFW championship (I think?) for finishing a show with "Amen" back in the day. I recall my instructors teaching me the magic of "Iron Crosses" and the death stare. I still shudder at the idea of doing a "roll around the track". 2. Corps names: Blue Devils: Blah Dribbles Freelancers: Fleabaggers, Flearanchers, Freelunchers Madison Scouts: Madison Sprouts Star: Band of Indiana Cavies: Crabbyliers 3. Some corps have but don't use the bus bathrooms (Cascades for example). While I didn't get into DC until 1991 I have a good background on "ye olde timey days". My original instructors consisted of 2 early 80's VK members, a guy who marched 83 SCV and 84 Devs, and a Freelancer.
  7. Anyone remember the "Fresno Ferns" hoax from the 70's? I read about it after it happened in an old book called "Drum corps there and then, here and now". Lost the book and the "ferns" tshirt I found on ebay.
  8. It'll always be SCV but BD & VK are really close as well. Favorite SCV moment: 1993 at the Seattle show during the snare break one of the snares dropped his left stick just before the flam fives. He continued to play the rest of the break with one stick. Flash forward to the victory concert and at the same point he dropped his stick during the show the entire snareline all dropped their left stick and played the rest of the drum feature with right sticks only. Favorite VK moment: 1992 SCV home show. First parking lot I'd ever been to before. I'd heard the name Tom Float but didn't really know much about him. Hearing his "floatisms" live and then watching one of the most easily clean runthroughs of my life while he played the snare parts with his bare hands on the center snares drum was astounding. Favorite BD moment: 1993 in Jackson. The line was warming up in a little grove of trees during Finals night. No real light on the drumline except the 20 or so camcorders in front of them. Suddenly the big lightning storm (that ended up dumping rain down on the scouts during the show) opened up right behind them as they played through the book. The lightning was blue and purple and was really the only thing lighting them up since the rain chased off all the guys with camcorders. Not the most exciting thing chopswise but the visual impact was amazing.
