  1. That year we had a great design staff coming together that included Jim Campell, Steve Brubaker, Tim Salzman, Bret Kuhn, and of course Jeff Fieldler (who didn't become the corps' director till 1991)....along with a great vehicle to work with....The Planets (definitely my favorite of the three years I was there). The guard was always great, but that year we had a very good horn and drum line that put together the complete package for us to move into the top 5..... Plus I was aging-out so we had to make top 5..and beat Phantom; my friends in the drum line there had ribbing me for 2 years; payback is a :o .... :P
  2. I just signed up!!! This way too cool!! my snipe is elbear98.....happy chatting!!! :)
  3. Mike I was wondering the same thing....I guess the new thing now is to hate the Cavaliers because they win so much and it has become 'boring'...go figure...
  4. A true pit Goddess... :P I also vaguely remember meeting martha (aka marthonius j. gleason) from scv... a very cool person from what i remember
  5. My God I totally forgot about Catherine!!! She was a total hottie ...I think every pit wanted her to instruct them ...(Sorry Sam..LOL)
  6. That's right I forgot he was going to Julliards at time... no wonder he was so incredible I used to talk to him and watch him play just to get pointers...didn't know about him memorizing other parts...that's hot....of course when I went to Berklee a few years later I had to change my whole style During those years the competition was always for 2nd...he had the top spot locked... Wonder what's he's doing now....it would be funny if he's still lives in NYC...that's where I live
  7. 1985... my age out year and the year of the dislocated jaw...from yawning... The year of the Planets and the red balls (very interesting when it was windy, but a cool effect) and the red cymbals... We beat Phantom for the first time in my DC career (I tried out for Phantom in 83 with a group of friends; they all thought I was shoo in-they made it, I didn't) revenge is sweet...lol A top 5 finish (the first for the Cavies in the DCI era...the seeds were planted for the Cavies you see today..at least I like to think that :P ) The jaw incident.. during second tour I decided that sleep was overrated (I had to arrange the the percussion ensemble piece we played) so any free time I had was devoted to that...including sleep time...I think we were in Oklahoma; we're in the middle of ensemble rehearsal and I yawned...and my mouth stayed opened. As hard as I tried, I couldn't shut it; had to go to the hospital and found out I had dislocated my jaw...go figure..the docs put back into place and asks me if I'm ok; I say yes and it pops out again...those were my last words for a week as I had to wrap my jaw up and was feed a steady diet of liquids only (i.e. McDonald's milkshakes)...all this and I didn't miss a show (but I got real strange looks from people....lol) Garfield...wow what a incredble show...one of my favs of all time..and Tom Smith's dash from the tunnel...amazing Dave Brown (Blue Devils) one of the most incredble mallet players I've ever seen; won I & E all 3 years I participated.... That's all for now...gosh 20 years...YIKES!!!!
