Kansan
Prairie Sound members converged on the small town of Augusta, KS and took another step forward. Wearing our Prairie Sound casual attire, we played the Larry Hols versions of The Star Spangled Banner and Home on the Range to open the Performing Arts Foundation Color Guard Show. The Performing Arts Foundation sponsors the DCI shows in Wichita, Hutchinson, and Pitsburg Kansas. We adapted to the lack of Soprano players by using our Mellophone player to cross over to Flugal and Soprano. We filled in the other Sorpano parts with our 4 player Baritone section (Baritones for World Domination, Kansas Chapter). The pulse of the ensemble was kept on track with 1 contra 2 percussion players and one Conductor (Yea, the same guy that was giving Drum Majors a hard time a while back). We had 3 hours before the perfomance to pull this this thing together and 3 of our people were brand new with only 3 hours to get used to their instruments. Of our new people one is a mallet percussionist who played Bass Drum, a Trombone player who last played Bugle with Sky Ryders back in the 70s and a Baritone player who never played G bugle and last played 2 years ago. Larry pulled a Dr. Frankenstein and put things together well enough for the ensemble to come alive. We played well enough not to get produce thrown at us and even drew some applause. People seemed to be in shock seeing Bugles being played in Kansas. Special thanks go to Dave Borden who put this gig together for us and to all our members sacrificed their Saturday morning, afternoon and evening to move Prairie Sound Forward. See you at Brass Hysteria, Jeff Dancinger, Prairie Sound!

Kansan
This sounds like the beginning of High Country Brass and guess what... you will get bigger as well!! GOOD WORK! We are getting bigger thanks to Craigs List. We have a start on our Color Guard, a small foot hold in Drummers and threatening to have 12 Brass by Brass Hysteria. Other groups have gone to shows with less. Maybe next year we will have an actual uniform. Right now we are in casual Prairie Sound Polo type Shirts and what ever matching pants and shoes we decide. A typical "Mini Corps Uniform". Jeff.
