Vanguard Rich
Announcement from the Chicago Royal Airs Board of Directors President, Scott Jameson, as follows: "The Chicago Royal Airs Drum & Bugle Corps proudly announced today that the Sie Lurye Sponsorship Grant Committee has awarded two grants this year. The recipients are Megan Francomb of the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps, Dubuque, IA, and Mike Kowbel of the Madison Scouts, Madison WI. “We’re very happy to be able to help a couple kids make ends meet so they can continue to march” said Committee Chairman, Scott Jameson. “For many of these kids Drum Corps is life itself. They don’t just want to be there, they feel they have to be there. The dedication and devotion is something you have to experience to totally understand. It takes very special individuals with a lot of personal fortitude to withstand the rigorous schedule and pressure of competition. Royal Airs founder Sie Lurye was a guy that understood that need. Sie opened the doors of Royal Air Hall to any neighborhood kid that had the desire to march and made champions out of them. Sie would do almost anything to help a kid and keep Drum Corps alive, often at the expense of his own business and family life. The Royal Airs share the same love of Drum Corps and hope to keep that spirit alive as long as we can.” The Sie Lurye Sponsorship Grant is available (to members under 21) of Drum & Bugle Corps in the United States who show financial need.
