Off the Record - Give the Drummer Some

Recommended Posts

In this issue of Off The Record, Frank shifts his focus from the horn line to the drum line. He features some of the great percussion innovators in the history of the activity: the Reilly Raiders, Blessed Sacrament, Boston Crusaders, Cavaliers, St. Rita's Brassmen, and Santa Clara Vanguard.

Enjoy!

I want to tell Frank: On behalf of all ex Brassmen members and the alumni corps, Thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU !!! for giving St. Rita's Brassmen's great drum line their props  . Excellent commentary. I marched in the drum line from 1970-74. Eric Perriloux was an innovator. John Oddo-Mark Holub-Frank Nash were the masters of quality of sound in that snare line.

Great stuff, Frank! Thanks for putting together a program with so much truth. I will be sure to offer it up to my little drummer, Adrian. Oh, Scott tells me the CD is on the way. All the best.

It was a great listen Frank. You could have done a couple hours on drum lines and arrangers that made the brass look good.

For those looking and listening in, Frank asks a question after the Reilly clip about who drums like that anymore. As I mentioned to Frank CADRE does. In fact we play that solo note for note as part of our Classics composition (also includes some Sac, Canadian Commanders and Cabs stuff)

video on the CADRE facebook page, the link is real long, just search for CADRE.

Regards,

John

HB,

The Brassmen were a wonderful and influential corps in so many ways. In my view, they represented the finest work in the history of that remarkable team of Perriloux and Dreitzer.

I'm glad you liked the program.

Best,

Frank

Some great drum lines back in the days,

excellent presentation Mr. Ironlips
