It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce to you that Dave Kimak is the new Percussion Caption Head of the White Sabers! Dave has been involved with the performing arts since 1994 and has been an educator in the Syracuse and Utica areas for the past 10 years teaching various marching band percussion lines and indoor winter ensembles. Dave has also performed with various marching bands, drum corps and indoor percussion ensembles including: The Baldwinsville Percussion Ensemble (1995 WGI World Champion), The Patriots Percussion Ensemble (1999 WGI Silver Medalist), and the Kingston Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps (2004 DCA A-Class Champion/ High Percussion Award). Everyone please join me in welcoming Dave to the Corps!

With added economically charged "shock" posts appearing on DCP here is a chance for the "upstate New Yorkers" to continue smiling! Empire AND White Sabers are still having camps and planning a full summer of competition! To the doubting Thomas's competition, whether in Open or A class, is still better than "time off" (opinion-sounds like prison) AND a great way to stay in shape! (YES round is a shape, but not a good one for marching drum corps.)

So, if you are like me, and need that competitive drive to keep you in shape then by all means come check out the White Sabers! We are more than happy to invite you into our family until your corps is back on the field in competition! Who knows maybe we will learn something from each other AND regain the "upstate New York" dominance. (MY tongue is FIRMLY planted in my cheek-if you can't laugh at yourself than others will laugh AT YOU!)

If you are new to the White Sabers and plan on visiting us this weekend (APRIL 17 & 18) drop me an email (jvona@addisoncsd.org) so we can plan our menu accordingly, Leslie will be very unhappy if anyone walks away hungry!

From Leslie,

WELCOME to the spring season in upstate New York!

1. The weather forecast for this weekend includes rain, possible snow, and chilly temperatures (highs in the 50's low's in the 30's) so PLEASE plan accordingly. Layers of clothing is best, it gives you the option of starting out warm, shedding/adding clothing as the temperature moves. A HAT is extremely important for the entire season as heat stroke is NOT our friend AND very dangerous! Bring at least three changes of socks and one two changes of shoes because wet/cold feet are NO fun! A newspaper can help with the process of overnight shoe drying.

2. BRING SUNSCREEN! This is the Southern Tier of New York and studies have shown we get less sun than Alaska, so ANY extended exposure to the sun may cause sunburn! Be safe and use sunscreen, even winter skiers use sunscreen when they hit the slopes so...BRING AND USE SUNSCREEN/BLOCK!

See you all tomorrow ready to start at 2:30pm!

The ensemble at rehearsals end was an adrenalin pumping closing to a GREAT weekend! The weather could not stop this determined corps and we managed to learn drill in spite of mother nature! The food was AMAZING, as always, with meatloaf, green bean and bacon mix, baked potato AND cake for Saturday's dinner. We meet next weekend (April 24-25, 2010) at the Avoca Central School so make your plans NOW!
