Mad75
This is a great addition for the Scouts!http://www.madisonscouts.org/blog/?p=474 Today's percussion staff announcements for the Scouts are important on several fronts and potential new members, current members, alumni and fans alike have reason to be excited. For starters, the addition of Jeff Queen is huge and anyone who's followed marching percussion knows that Jeff's involvement with the Scout's is a big deal. Just as important though is the accomplishment of continued staff continuity. Essentially, the pillars of Madison's percussion staff have remained intact from last season along with key adjustments and additions that should pay great dividends. And speaking of key adjustments, probably the biggest news today was the revelation that Thom Hannum is not only remaining on as Percussion Arranger but has taken on the roll of Caption Supervisor....great news indeed! Man, to be 19 years old again and to be fortunate enough to march under this staff. Great things are in store!
contrajedi8
Nice pickup for the Scouts. If there is one area I thought they could have improved a lot on for the coming year, it was percussion. And regarding the "too many approaches" thought: I think the Scouts were plagued for a long time by a too single-minded approach to how to do things. It worked for a while and then they tried to hold onto yesteryear for too long They became a sort of rolling parody of themselves. As long as all of the different view points are focused in a similar direction, good things will happen. Hire good people and let them do what they do best while having a process and a goal in mind.
