Pioneer actually died about 20 years ago and nobody told them about it. On the bright side, now they can stop getting worse every year...

Pioneer has been the laughing stock of this activity for a loooong time and will continue to be as long as the person in charge is still Roman Blenski. None of what I just read surprised me in any way. They are, by far, the most bush league organization in drum corps. Why any 16 year old kid would plunk down money to march there defies all rational thought. Better every day. Worse every year.

Scott Boerma is one of the finest arrangers in the marching band/drum corps activity. The above quoted statement is pure trash. All things considered, there is no reason to retain anyone involved with this past season. Admins, designers and instructional staff all need to go. That is hard for me to say because I know several of them personally and have been influenced by them. The Madison Scouts are an organization that is constantly looking in the wrong direction. They look back instead of forward. They seem content (as do a sizeable portion of their fan base and alumni) to try to recreate 1975, 1988 and 1995 all over again. All we hear is the calls to "PUT ON THE SUPERMAN SUITS AND PLAY MALAGUENA!" If that is the goal, have fun finishing 16th-18th place every year. The activity passed them by years ago. They have been competitively irrelevant for over a decade and the ship shows no signs of being righted. Hence the need to blow the whole thing up and start over. I have long been a fan of the group and would like to see them turn this thing around.

Every year, without fail, the Madison Scouts thread turns into an out-of-control dumpster fire. Can't you wait until the previous years dumpster fire is reduced to ashes? It's only compounded by the fact that the chickens have come home to roost, competitively speaking.

Oh, trust me. I love that sound. There was nothing like it back in the day. Scott Boerma was my college band director and I love him dearly as a friend and colleague.

This is the biggest over-generalization I've heard in a long time. Take a look at 2008 Phantom, any recent Crown, 2014 BD, Cadet's Angels and Demons show (can't remember the year) and about 100 other recently competitively successful and crowd pleasing shows for proof. Competitively relevant and crowd-pleasing appear, based on reading these MEN OF MADISON threads, to be two separate things in here.

I know I'm going to take a ration of crap for this but here goes: I love it how most of you want Madison to relive the past and do the same recycled stuff. Example: "DO A SWEET ### LATIN SHOW." Or "PLAY MALAGAUENA/STRAWBERRY SOUP/MALAGA/LEMON SQUEEZE AND MELT FACES OFF!" At the same time, you wonder why they finish in 10th place. Why can't we just appreciate the past for what it was? Those Madison shows were incredible. 95, 96, 88. All of them amazing. But thats just the point. It's not the late-80s or early-90s anymore. Scott Boerma hasn't written for the corps in the better part of a decade. If you want the Madison Scouts to be successful and keep advancing and challenge for championships, they can't keep living in the past. Sorry if this is hard to hear. It's just my two cents. I couldn't care less if you disagree. I would like to see the Madison Scouts competitively relevant again. I know, deep down, most of you would, too.

People are only complaining about all of this because it's BD. I guarantee you that you would not hear one word of complaint if we were talking about Carolina Crown or Phantom Regiment about to break highest score ever. Not bagging on either one of of those fine groups, but it's just the way things work around here I guess. It's only bad because it's the Blue Devils. Sheesh, people. Suck it up, put your big girl panties on and appreciate a #### fine drum corps performing a #### fine show.

The Blue Devils have an amazing show and are far and away the best group out there. Wouldn't it be great if everyone could park their biases (either against certain corps or the judging system) and just enjoy some great drum corps?

Consistency in drum corps is one group. Blue Devils. Since 1975, they have fallen out of the top 4 once, finishing 5th in 1991. /thread

I feel like someone says these same things every single year. This top 5 is the best ever. This 6-12 is the best ever. This group of non-finalist corps is the best ever.

SW we kept our shakos when we aged out. Mine still sits on my desk. I still have my last pair of rehearsal gloves. My tour backpack. A valve cap I broke off my horn by accident one day. All my music and drill from my marching years. I have all of these things. These and the back pain...

It doesn't matter how good the solo is. BD will never, ever, ever get credit for it. At least not in these pages. Put the same show with Carolina Crown and it would get hailed as drum corps genius. BD just draws hate from all angles because they do it better than anybody else.
