bigbluekiltie
I watched "Invictus" last night, and one of the songs, World Union, had a melody and lyrics as an overtone....it was a tune by Gustav Holst...very melodic and beautiful. I am sure PR played it, but cannot figure out the title. Can anyone help?
knightsbari
it kinda resembles the slow 3/4 section in the middle of Jupiter from the Planets. Start around 3:01 is that what you are hearing ? and from what I am seeing on Corpsreps.com Regiment has never done anything by Holst. Michael Boo
The British use this as a sort of unofficial national anthem, "I Vow to Thee, My Country." In 1921, Holst adapted it from "Jupiter" from "The Planets" because the chorale was an instant classic.
glory
I Vow to Thee ... One of the great melodies. Cavies played it to great effect as part of Jupiter and the Planets in '95. It's also been a much-loved encore piece. This isn't drum corps, but "I Vow to Thee" also made for a great moment in the funeral of Princess Diana. No disrepect to Elton John or any of the many other highlights of that sad day, but singing "I Vow to Thee" (one of Diana's favorites) in Westminster Abbey was another outstanding example of how the British know how to do ceremony. 3rd Glasgow BB
Didn't SCV play this on the 1st State of the Art? The last track I think. My copy was stolen from my car a few months ago so I can't check. On a similar theme this is also a great piece of music.
