Blackstar
While reading a thread on the 75 Blue Devils, someone mentioned how most of the drum line from the Kingsmen, followed Float to Canada and the Crusaders which lead to the only line to win a caption without making finals. It made me think about recent develops. Would Boston be were they are if Lancers were still around or how the death of one corps helped another. Northern Thunder
There are some examples of corps from the same general geographic region going inactive, which perhaps gave impetus to other area corps. When Des Plaines Vanguard took the 1974 season off, did any people go to Phantom Regiment (about 65 miles away), allowing Phantom to make DCI finals for the first time that year? I don't know. I guess we would think that when North Star went inactive for the '83 season we would have expected an influx into 27th Lancers. Maybe they did get some people, but not enough to give 27 an improved standing at finals. Same with Alliance going inactive the following year. 27th did make finals in '84, but not by much. Not sure if they got many Alliance marchers. Seneca Optimists went inactive for '79, yet we didn't see any improvement from the Oakland Crusaders that year. Instead we saw Oakland drop 8 slots at DCI. Certainly we saw as the Bridgemen began tailing off ('82-'84), Garfield got much stronger, but I don't know if the two were related. Bluecoats were 11th and Glassmen were 13th at '92 DCI. Limited Edition (Columbus, OH) went inactive for the '93 season, and Bluecoats improve to 9th and Glassmen make 11th in '93. Did either corps get an influx of Limited Edition members?? Enough to make a difference?? We could even get ridiculous with this. The 32nd Hussar (Madison, WI) went inactive beginning in '73, and the Madison Scouts made finals for the first time in '73. Were the two related?? I guess you'd have to have people who were close to each corps relate their own experience on this topic.
Joe Salvatore
Would Boston be were they are if Lancers were still around or how the death of one corps helped another. I think that a better Boston question would be would they be where they are now if Suncoast Sound and/or Magic of Orlando were still around.
