Big Govie-ment
Minnesota dealt with sub-zero temperatures last weekend, but the inside of St. Peter High School was running hot. The three-time DCA Class A champion Govenaires came together to rehearse its 2013 production: Chasing Hollywood The hornline took its first plunge into roughly one-third of the show music, arranged by DCA-favorite Dennis Argul. Instructors Larry Pawlowski (music director) and Bobby Bonslater (brass caption head) returned to work with a growing brass section. Across town, the color guard rehearsed at North Intermediate School, under the instruction of returning caption head Rob Thomas and new program coordinator Molly Norton. Visual caption head and drill writer Andy Falvey got everyone moving again during visual block. But it was the percussion section that generated the most buzz. Members worked on opener music by new arranger (and recent Drum Corps Hall of Fame inductee) Joel Matuzak. Instructing the fresh book was new caption head Mike Mayer, who is returning to his drum corps roots for 2013. With a new sound and a returning intensity, the Govenaires promise to deliver its most entertaining show yet. If you're interested in joining, the Govenaires' next rehearsal weekend is February 16 and 17 at St. Peter High School. Saturday rehearsal runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday rehearsal runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All sections have openings available. Contact us on Facebook if you plan on coming or to check for updates. PS: Stay tuned for show details!
