guardguy123
New to this. What is the best brand of paint to use to paint a floor mat? Does anyone has experience using Lowe's brand paint or is Home Depot's Behr paint the best?
SpartanGuard
I've only used Behr Porch & Patio paint from Home Depot, but it holds up great. I think I went with them over the Lowe's brand because it was a few bucks cheaper per gallon. As long as it's an acrylic latex floor paint, you should be good. rifleboypa
we used paint from both home depot and lowes. make sure you spread it on thin and work it into the fibers. we never had problems, although this season our floor is a little more sticky than usual.. Semi-gloss will give you the sheen of an inked floor. Flat paint can scuff and get dirty fast. Some people water it down, but it can take longer to dry, it doesn't stick as well, and it reduces the sheen. Vibrant reds, greens, and oranges can be tricky, and might need more than one coat. It's only a couple of bucks more per gallon to get the higher-end "paint and primer" paint that covers well. We have found that Behr works great. But as long as you avoid the super cheap stuff, you should be fine. If you can, after you paint let the floor sit four 12-18 hours to really dry. Then sprinkle a light coating of baby powder over the floor. This baby powder will prevent the sticking when you open it that first time. The kids will spread the baby powder around when they rehearse on it during the next few rehearsals, and you shouldn't have to add more. You've never had a problem with the latex cracking or the fact that it's interior paint cause it to not last long, or getting dirt/messed up easily? Interior semi-gloss no problems. Sometimes a drumline or another guard will use the same floor the next year. Just make sure the vinyl is clean before you paint it. Not sure if it matters, but we use old advertising billboards to assemble the floor.
