shombell
Cleaning out my loft this week I "found" two mellophones. I need to work out which one is F and which one is G. Bit of context, I used to run a Corps in the UK and since we folded in 2020 I have all the equipment stored in my lock up and was adamant one of the kids had stolen a mellophone when we folded. Lo and behold it was in my loft all along sat with an older Mellophone from years back before we changed to Bb/F instruments in 2012. I know one is in F and I think the other is in G - Both are Kanstul 3v Mellophones. How do I tell which one is F and which one is G as I have no clue which is which. Is it as simple as the length of the tubing as both look almost identical but I am 99% sure one is from the new horns we got in 2012 direct from Kanstul. Thanks in advance for any advice! ironlips
Quick hack: Stick a mouthpiece in each and play some open notes in the mid to low register. The one that sounds lower is in F.
