Ohio Valley Thunder-Around the World in 12 Minutes

OVT invites you to come around the world with us, and never leave your seat.

We open our journey in jolly old England with the opening strains of Rule Britannia which immediately leads to Gustav Holst's March from First Suite in Eb. We then travel to Africa, and the mystery and wonder of the dark continent with sections of Robert W. Smith's thrilling piece Africa:Ceremony, Song and Ritual. We then travel to the Far East to Korea as we come to our ballad with the moving folk song Arirang, a simple and gorgeous tune that the OVT staff has taken pride and care in arranging. We come back to Europe as no musical journey would be complete without the stirring sounds of Malaguena. We come home to the land of the free, the USA, paying homage to "The March King" John Philip Sousa with the rousing strains of The Stars and Stripes Forver, and as our show comes to a close we switch modes into our national anthem Francis Scott Key's The Star Spangled Banner. Bon Voyage!

Mountaineer-Wild and Wonderful:A Portrait of West Virginia

Mountaineer pays homage to our home state of West Virginia and its beautiful scenery and rich Appalachian tradition. We open the show with Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring setting the stage for the rest of the show. We next tour the white water rapids of the southern part of the state along the New River with Steven Reinke's Into the Raging River. We then settle down in the western part of the state in the coal valley, and the mists of Sunday morning, and the sounds of church bells and hymns, and the beautiful rich and flowing strains of the old American hymn When I Survey The Wonderous Cross. Continuing our voyage along the southern border of the state we reflect in the beautiful almost haunting tune Shenandoah leading into the closer the state (and corps) song and John Denver hit Country Roads. The place we belong, West Virginia...WILD and Wonderful.

Storm Troopers-Godzilla Eats Las Vegas

The Storm Troopers tell the humorous tale of Godzilla attacking Las Vegas in this compostition by Eric Whitacre. The show opens on the city getting ready for the day, little do they know the surprise instore for them, a lone mello ushers in uneasy feeling of danger, when all of a sudden a scream is heard and Godzilla (played by the contra section) comes roaring into Las Vegas, destroying everything in site, not stopped by anything, not even little Fido, but suddenly something catches his eye. The Sphinx has caught the eye of the love sick beast, and thus begins to "seduce" Godzilla in her mystery. While Godzilla is distracted who else comes to the rescue of Las Vegas? None other than the king himself, Elvis, or rather a army of about 1 million tiny 'Elvi', as they attack you'll hear the strains of the hits Love Me Tender and Hearbreak Hotel. The little Elvi fight bravely, and bomb the bombastic beast. After one too many hits the big lizard falls and appears to be dead. The people of the city begin to celebrate. Unknownst to them Godzilla is shaken but not stirred and lives to ravage again...

Mountie Cadets-Gustav Holst's First Suite in Eb For Military Band

The Mountie Cadets pay tribute to one of the Brittish legends, Gustav Holst, and one of his most famous works, First Suite in Eb. We open with the hauntingly gorgeous strains of the first movement Chaconne, a beautiful round type setting that builds first in the contras, then the baris, then the mellos, the frontline, and finally the sopranos. Next we pick up the tempo to the bright Intermezzo in the mellos, then the sops. We close with one of the most known tunes, and trills in the sop section and a corps fall open March. The corps begins to accelerando towards the end, then comes to an almost complete stop before another quick accelerando into the end of the movement, and the show. We hope you enojoy Gustav Holst's First Suite in Eb.
