Machine
I remember all the conspiracy theories in '95 when The Cavaliers finally turned it into high gear during Finals week... Talk on the street was that any of the top 4 could have won, but the judges hand picked The Cavaliers because that was the direction they wanted to stear DCI. They didn't want prop laden shows (a la Cadets), dark concept shows (a la BD), or balls to the wall loud and louder shows (a la Madison). Maybe every 10 years or so they need to steer the herd. Hey, how did we end up with ampilified drum rapping if The Planets was the direction we were steered into??? :P
Phansouth
Good points. I remember getting called by Jeff Fiedler the week after finals that year b/c I wrote in a DCW report that Cavies' show was not as difficult as the other top contenders. He wanted to know what I considered "difficult".
TripleTreyThreat
Behind two shows which are absolutely incredible! They're placing right where they deserve, and the Cavaliers are...get this...better! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Phantom's show design is LIGHTYEARS beyond the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are just playing their butts off (as they've done the past few years). Phantom will pass the Cavaliers eventually (hopefully, for the sake of the activity) because their show design is just that much better. Phan Doris
Let's all call a truce on this thread and wait for tonight's scores. Then we can laugh (or cry, moan, whatever) and start another discussion about how it turns out. :P Now for my nitpick: In answer to the query posed in the title of this thread, the answer is, "YES" because Phantom Regiment is the only one of the two actually competing tonight. usmpiano
I'd like to see them explore more of the British Brass Band music from Phillip Sparke. JD is a "bright" enough writer (not meaning his intelligence, but the way he orchestrates) to make this dazzling music SHINE!!! A show of segments from the Raphsody (and Concerto) for Euphonium, Land of the Long White Cloud, and closing with the end of the Cambridge Variations....mmmmmmmmmmmm.... What a dream!!!
