I think fully half or more of the corps I saw in Quarters started off facing backfield. Southwind plays a significant part of their show to the backfield, and they're not the only ones. I guess it's great for those who weren't able to get tickets on the pressbox side..... Honestly, it's a great effect once in a while, but it seems to be way overdone this year.
