t-mac
'Foley' is the term used to describe studio-made or engineered sound effects. I'm pretty sure this ad was a combination of both vocal sounds and foley effects. Ah! Actually if you watch the "making of" sections, you see that they basically placed microphones all around the parts of the car and drove it through different terrains and then used the "choir" to reproduce the sounds you would hear from the perspective of the camera angle to be used in the video. I am sure some of the sounds were recorded seperately and then spliced together, but the whole thing is actually scored like a 20th century piece of music, with time signatures and rhythmic notation. Ya know, now that I think about it, some of those high squeely sounds DID remind me of Bjork-speak. :sshh: Pretty cool stuff though.
MGCpimpOtimp
I don't know, if you watching the making, it sounds pretty realistic there.

MGCpimpOtimp
That was in reply to tommytimp's statement "I'm pretty sure this ad was a combination of both vocal sounds and foley effects." We posted at roughly the same time tmac, my apologies

Linnehan13
I'll take this over drumspeak anyday! Um, that stuff in the commercial WAS drumspeak. And lots of it. Some other sound effects, yeah, but they mimicked drums quite a few times. As for me, I would take drumspeak over that every time. There was no definite rhythm or theme, just sounds (kind of like a John Cage song).
