Iplaytimpani
I would have been surprised as well, until I realized who it was asking the question anyway. Guess when you've never marched or really been around it, you dont know....
Michael Boo
Ah, so their motives are pure, then. Same as mine. :)
Hrothgar15
Most of the time there is a reason for a music change. Half notes don't change to two eighths and a quarter just for the heck of it. There is usually something wrong with the music if it has to be changed...corps don't do that just to "keep things fresh." Obviously it can't compare to drum corps, but when I was in marching band, we would add four counts of silence before a big hit to provide more suspense, or change a passage into half-time to provide more impact, or change a part in the middle voices so they could be heard better, etc...there was always a reason. Sorry for offending anyone.
kusankusho
Could have been a comment from a judge, a tech saying "hey, wouldn't this sound better?", maybe it helps with an attack or cleans up a timing issue - could be anything. It doesn't mean anything was wrong, per se, it just means someone thought this would be better. Hrothgar you owe it to yourself to join a corps and march. kadune
Drum Corps is change. Last year BD changed two pick up notes into being fermata held/rit notes; minor change, but noticeable. It's all for effect. Or something. If it works, why question?

We used to change rhythms all the time to help things line up from section to section. It wasn't needed. No one probably even noticed. So, yes. It's happens.
