PhantomFanT10
Is there really any difference in the feel between a 1.5C mouthpiece (Bach) and a 1C mouthpiece?
KungFuCharlie
Is there really any difference in the feel between a 1.5C mouthpiece (Bach) and a 1C mouthpiece? I've never played a 1C, but I have played a 1 1/2C and a 1 1/4C and I could tell a difference between those two pieces. Even slight differences in cup depth, cup diameter, rim contour, rim thickness, throat and backbore can change your sound and feel.
TCHSBandNerd09
Ok . . so I'll add on to the author's question. What effect do different rim sizes/shallower cups/larger throats and all that good stuff have on your sound?
PhantomFanT10
Thanks for the response...I was wondering because I plan on purchasing a Megatone mouthpiece for my marching and concert playing here at college. Right now I'm playing on a 1C mouthpiece and I would consider switching to a slightly small diameter if it would keep my sound a bit more "broad" but would increase endurance slightly because of the smaller diameter. I really enjoy the 1C because of the greater amount of air I can put through it as compared to the 7BW I was playing before. Will the 1.5C allow me to keep that characteristic while increasing my endurance without becoming too "bright" so to speak (the reason I dislike my 3C mouthpiece)? CloudHype
The difference between a 1C, 1 1/2c and 1 1/4c is the high point of the rim and the contor of the rim. Diameter is the same. Like I've been telling others, might want to look at the back end of your piece (throat and backbore).
PhantomFanT10
How would you say the 1C and 1.5C differ in that respect?
CloudHype
1 1/2 C is slightly flatter on the rim and slightly more narrow vs. a 1C. A 1 1/4C high point is more to the outside and might feel slightly bigger vs a 1 C.

PhantomFanT10
What effect will the flatter, more narrow rim have on one's playing in terms of sound and feel? I can imagine it might be more comfortable. I have decently cushioned lips; I can't handle anything that isn't wide since it constricts my sound. And anything shallow I bottom out on. It is a flat rim like a 16C4 Schilke (which has a deeper cup vs. 1 1/2 C) , which is something you might want to look into, same diameter, deeper cup.
