John Mayer
What happens when you have more then 9 people in every section? ( I don't know, it never happened) You get a "Triple Double" double digets in every section (horns 17, drums 18, guard 15) Things got started in grand Govie fasion, by having to wait to have the doors unlocked, which is better then 2 years ago when the truck blew up, or last year where only a dozen people showed up. Doors got open, new and old people showed up, the new horns got passed out, the drums went "Bang, bang, bang", the guard did what ever they do, and smiles were had by all. The only wierd part was the horn line dealing with the new key. Fri ended and off to Patrick's for regrouping/libations/and formal introductions Sat was the same, fun, fun, fun, drumcorps, drumcorps, drumcorps. More drums, more guard, more pit, more horns. Everyone got together at the end to see what it's like to be in B-Flat. We stood in a double arc (way to big for one ) We went through the street beat, started the "sound off", the horns went up, and the govies went into B-Flat. The first 3-4 measures were as bad as a 3 grade band, the horn line fighting the new key with old memories, but cool heads prevailed, and no one drop kicked their new horn. The second time was 1000% better The first gathering of the 80th edition of the Govies ended with more smile, some sore lips, lots of hugs, new faces, and an unformal announcement of a brass band at Patrick's. Off to the OLY! for drumcorps digestion. The Oly was good The Bass Brand Brass Band got started at 9:00 bells and did well . I had a world famous patty melt, and was home by midnight <**> . All in all it was a good time to be a Govenaire Keep you posted, love you all John
