Southwind Announces CG Staff

Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the color guard staff for the 2007 season.

The caption will be led by Southwind alum Lindsay Kusmierczak. She will be heading up all aspects of the color guard program for the 2007 season. Lindsay is an alumni of Southwind, where she marched for two years in 2000-2001. She then spent four summers performing in the color guard with Phantom Regiment, where she aged-out in 2005. Lindsay has earned a B.A. in Art with a minor in Art History from Northern Illinois University. She has taught color guard at many high schools in the St. Louis, Mo. area, as well as schools in the Atlanta suburbs. She is currently is working as a free-lance artist, as well as teaching color guard, and is a performing member of the Phantom Regiment Independent World winter guard.

Heather Brown returns to Southwind for her second year on the color guard staff. This year she will primarily be a weapon instructor. Previously, she has been on staff with Memphis Sound and Revolution drum and bugle corps. Heather holds a degree in electronic music from the University of Miami (Florida). She has worked with many guards and taught many clinics and camps in Texas, Louisiana and Florida, and she is currently employed as the full-time color guard caption head at Tomball High School in Tomball, Texas.

Tavius Cooper will be assisting Lindsay with the design of the 2007 season. His performing experience includes Carolina Crown, Spirit of Jacksonville State University, JSU Marching Southerners, JSU Center Stage Performance Ensemble and Bravo winter guard. Tavius is currently teaching color guard at a number of high schools in the Metro Atlanta area and is also performing with the Phantom Regiment IW winter guard.

Pam Davis will serve as the movement designer and instructor. Pam spent three summers performing in Southwind’s color guard from 1999-2001, then aged-out with Phantom Regiment in 2002. She is performing this season with the Pride of Cincinnati IW winter guard, having been a member in 2001 and 2006. Pam is currently teaching color guard at Dixie Heights High School and is employed at an investment company in northern Kentucky.

Elizabeth Glass, a Kentucky native, will be a flag instructor this summer. Liz was a member of the color guard with Phantom Regiment in 2002, 2003 and 2005. She has taught color guard at many high schools in central Kentucky. Liz is currently pursuing a degree in web design at Northern Kentucky University.

Lauren Harper will be working as a technician with the color guard. Lauren was a member of Carolina Crown’s color guard in 2004. She also performed with the University of Georgia Redcoat Band for four years and Ad Astra Per Aspera Independent World winter guard in 2005. Lauren holds a degree in psychology from the University of Georgia. She is currently the director of the Brookwood High School color guard program in northern Georgia and performing with the Phantom Regiment IW winter guard.

Bobby Jones will be a weapon technician with the color guard this summer. Bobby has marched with Blue Devils B, Santa Clara Vanguard and the Cadets. He also performed with Pride of Cincinnati IW winter guard and is currently performing with the Phantom Regiment IW winter guard. Bobby is currently pursuing a degree in elementary education and teaches color guard in the Atlanta area.

About the 2007 season, Lindsay Kusmierczak said, “I have always wanted to return to Southwind, there was always a strong sense of camaraderie and family-like atmosphere with the corps. My first summer of Southwind was where I fell in love with the activity. I look forward to continuing the education and growth of the color guard program at Southwind this summer.”
