Melissa Sampson
For those of you who have managed to get to rehearsals of any corps this year, or are on staff or in a corps this year, how do think their/your music compares to last years in terms of difficulty? This is only in comparison to the same corps last year in terms of difficulty. I know it is early, but you can usually tell the difficulty level to some degree by now. The corps who has revealed the most probably. . .The Cadets, I think have unreal difficulty musically compared to last year. Also, I have heard Crown. I don't know if overall the music is more difficult, but the percussion have much more exposure this summer due to a much better section. liebot
I don't think anyone's going to tell you that a corps' music is easier this year. Even if they did, they'd probably word it in a way that was still positive. As in: With the level of visual demand that x corps is going to have this year, they needed to adjust the musical books so they could achieve the maximum affect. See, completely positive way of wording an easy music book. Man, I should be in PR.
Einstein On The Beach
Much much harder
Piper
Very rarely does it get any easier. Instructional staffs are very good at seeing that it doesn't happen. :P

If you had a smoking hornline one year that could handle a tough book, then the next year your hornline is 80% rookies, the designers are not going to write a book that completely goes over their heads. So yes, that does happen, it isn't anything out of the ordinary. If of course the staff can remedy it, which they hopefully do, then more power to them. Einstein On The Beach
They can always "break out the hose," BOA style. Yeah, but a staff will only water so much. And in case you're alluding to anything, I think you'll be happy with a certain group this year with a certain new brass caption head.. The hardest they have ever done. One thing that a lot of people don't realize about Crown is that a lot of the difficulty in their shows is from very exposed parts and a high demand insofar as musicality. While they are not known as much for 32nd note runs as some (though they their are some fast technical passages and double toungeing this year), CC is not afraid to hang it all out there. Think 2005's Angel.. Edited May 19, 2007 by tubamann
