  1. YEA! announced the suspension (until 2017) of the Cadets Winter Percussion (and Winter Guard) in order to retool the programs, lock down rehearsal space for all their programs, and allow the guard staff to focus on Cadets & C2 Youth Education in the Arts Announces Hiatus for Indoor Programming As it develops plans to improve the experience and operation of its two winter ensembles, YEA! has decided its indoor percussion and guard groups will not compete during the 2016-17 season. “We know we can provide our students with a quality experience of the highest level that aligns with the values and culture of the Cadets’ Ensembles. We are going to use the next season to develop that potential for both the Cadets indoor percussion and guard programs,” said George Hopkins, the CEO of YEA! The board of YEA! endorsed the plan for Cadets Winter Percussion and Cadets Winter Guard at its meeting on May 14. The intention is for both CWP and CWG to renew rehearsals in October of 2017 for a return to competition over the winter of 2018. The two ensembles are different, and the rationale for a hiatus is unique to each, although there are some shared challenges. Among those are: · Space – With two indoor groups and two drum corps, one or more YEA! ensembles are rehearsing more than half the weekends each year. We’re seeking an effective, economical solution to a fundamental requirement for our performing ensembles. · People – Running our winter programs to the standard we set with for Cadets requires people not just for leadership but for every aspect of support and operation. That means the right people – and enough of them – in the right roles. · Finances –YEA! invests generously in these and all its ensembles as part of its core mission. While continuing to do so, we also seek to develop a more sustainable model with more direct support. As for the specific programs: Cadets Indoor Guard The CADETS INDOOR GUARD continues on hiatus consistent with the preferences of the guard staffs of Cadets and Cadets 2. The two summer ensembles have required great effort and the team wants to be devoted completely to the summer guards. With this in mind, the preparation for the Winter is not something that most believe we have the resources for at this time. Continued: https://www.facebook.com/cadets.org/posts/10154276470056349
  2. sounds great -- the laws of physics are totally overrated :)
  3. Agreed. We've all been around this stuff for decades and have become so used to it - almost jaded I watched this and thought "how the heck is that even possible" Monstrous is a terrific word!! And "musical"
  4. yup the first show - sorry. Not on Cadets calendar yet! lol

  6. exactly 2007 was the prime example of this - everyone coming down the "hill" into the Rosebowl was out of step and a mess, then there was the Cadets. Perfection. They won the night, placing 2nd
  7. interesting you could say that - I literally couldn't agree less. It isn't about them as individuals. Acting ridiculous and drawing drama and attention to themselves it's about a long line of professionalism and pride and a unit I personally find the jumping up and down, crying, passing out, wandering around, hugging and high fives others do pretty narcissistic but hey, everyone can do their own thing
  8. Agreed. They have had several great clips I've really enjoyed.
  9. Agreed. They have had several great clips I've really enjoyed.
  10. anyone forgetting what the Cadets are about needs to watch this... especially the second half of this https://youtu.be/mJg3Mqj8ia8 Hint: it isn't about the uniform.
  11. blog post on Mechanicsburg WGI guard (new caption head) http://thesecondopinionhva.blogspot.com/2016/05/mirror-mirror-on-wall-whos-most.html?m=1 interesting read!
  12. Glad you are doing better. I honestly disagree with the rest of it. I guess if they do great visually you'll be back here to eat crow. Alumni worried about M&G are worried about the wrong thing. JMO
  13. probably have to pay someone to take them. The whole thing is such a failure! Even the electronic violin will be out of tune
  14. I might buy a movie ticket on Fandango at a showing opposite the DCI Quarterfinals Simulcast
  15. first and foremost - I hope you are doing ok... second and not nearly as importantly - I disagree with your "panel of experts"
  16. It really is "silly season" isn't it??!!
  17. The guard and their uniforms worked great in 2014. Just over one season ago Calling them a failure is ridiculous before things even hit the field.
  18. Hearing Cadets and Crowns leaks I really think BD might have the program this year
  19. There really wasnt. Last season the uniforms were kept under wraps. With the change they announced they were going to c2. This season Cadets program developed and they announced the new plan.
  20. This is getting silly Last year Hopkins himself said the black uni would go to C2. It wasn't some conspiracy theory by those supposedly in the know as BRASSO suggests The plan changed.
  21. that's just your sense I know alumni who feel differently Also - no one is saying they are changing their "traditional uniform" -- we will no doubt see the M&G back in 2017... there's been zero discussion or announcement that the traditional uniform has been abandoned
