  1. Many high schools have jazz ensembles. I don't know what's so difficult (spoken by a guy trained by a jazz trumpet player). There are some great musicians on the fields nowadays who would pay money to break loose into something wild. I'll bet the crowd would go wild also. I don't want to make it sound easy but I really disagree that it is difficult. Played by a great corps it would be a great book and the crowds would understand what was going on. It's like any music: it will sound good if you have the musicians and not all corps have the musicians. The corps without the musicians can put you to sleep playing what they are now. It's not the style of music that makes the difference; it's the quality of the corps.
  2. It's funny what is obscure for some is not for someone else. I played and taught Eau Claire Boys in the early 1960's and arranged for the Northernaires a bit later. St Matthias with 2 t's. :)
  3. The St. Paul Scouts are having a reunion in October and are getting together as many horns as possible to entertain the rest of the alumni. I purchased a sop on eBay and it really sucks. I'm not going to throw good money after bad by trying to fix it. I'll pay what is reasonable. Perhaps you could point me in the direction of a corps that is unloading their G bugles. The couple I have already checked have sold all their sops but I need more hints. I've checked MBI and Blue Stars. Thanks in advance. I really don't want to miss out on this.

    CDs for sale

I would like to add that if anyone can donate two shows, either new or as a significant upgrade to what we have in the collection, we'll make a 5 show custom CD for you. A simple trade of 2 for 5. We have about 6500-7,000 shows in the collection and some of them are of poor quality. We are missing thousands. This is a long standing project to preserve drum corps recordings and also to distribute them legally to people commonly called Olde Pharts. The lists of what we have are http://preserveourcorpsmemories.com/pdf/junior.html.pdf (junior corps from North America), http://preserveourcorpsmemories.com/pdf/senior.html.pdf (senior corps from North America), and http://preserveourcorpsmemories.com/pdf/in...tional.html.pdf (international corps). 5. We have roughly 3600 high quality recordings that can be picked from to create a 5 show CD. The recordings go back to 1947. No DCI shows are available because of copyright. We also have an agreement with Fleetwood Sounds to sell their remastered Fleetwood CDs. Check us out at http://preserveourcorpsmemories.com/ordercustomCDs.html

    G sop needed

Nothing big except maybe to a few people who are alumni of the St Paul Scouts. We are going to get together about 20 horns and play music from the mid 60's at our reunion in October. As I was a soloist, I don't want to make a fool of myself. :) I have considered a mellophone but that's chickening out and I'll work hard to be able to play in the upper registers. We already have the soloist for MBI who can play comfortably in the double high C range and I want to at least get close. Sigh! Sorry for the late response. I've been trying to get one on eBay but got aced out on a late 60's one valve one rotor sop to a guy who paid more than I've seen 2 valve sopranoes go for. Glenn

    G sop needed

Hmmmm. Never thought anyone might loan me one. I need a sop for a onetime performance and most likely it will be used only for practice in California where I live. I will be able to borrow a sop at the reunion. I'd be thrilled with a loaner but I have no problem with purchasing whatever is available. This is for big time fun for this guy. :) I can give oodles of references including everybody who has done business with me through my web site. Glenn http://PreserveOurCorpsMemories.com
  8. I need a G sop in good condition - any type available. Going to play some old music so even a G-D one valve and rotor sop would be OK but would prefer three valve. After 37 years of disuse, this 61 year old is going to get his chops back!! Glenn http://PreserveOurCorpsMemories.com
  9. The new Fleetwood CDs are sold on our web site, http://PreserveOurCorpsMemories.com under a negotiated agreement with Fleetwood. I have been given approval by Fleetwood to sell any other recordings they might have made in the past as they know they have no legal grounds to stop me. They have told me such. They have sincerely wished me luck and I get along with them quite well. I note my last thread was removed from DCP and am wondering if this thread will be removed also. If so, I would like to know why. I am doing nothing wrong and to assume that I am is DCP's prerogative but really quite unfair. If Fleetwood has no objection, why should DCP?
  10. Preserve Our Corps Memories has entered into an agreement with Fleetwood to sell their new CDs. These CDs are remakes of their old albums and have the original artwork. Other historical recordings are offered dating back to 1952. These are nice, clean recordings. The records have been meticulously cleaned and software is used to remove what other imperfections might remain. If a recording cannot be restored well, it is not sold. All "profits" will be donated to struggling drum corps or given as scholarships. At present (we are just beginning) we are donating to an all age corps from Houston and a new junior corps based in Eau Claire, WI called the Chippewa Valley Brigade. The membership of POCM has shouldered most of the major expense as our donation to drum corps. The web site answers most questions a person might have. http://pocm.us Give us a read. It's a noble venture if not a noble adventure. :) OldSopPlaya
