  1. I've already said twice how I have no problem with the move and am happy it is taking place to keep the corps running, so I guess this makes three. You can spell doom and gloom if the corps "doesn't move" all you want as part of your argument, fact is I still made it clear I think the move was a good idea. Sometimes the questions actually being asked just get lost when you try too hard.
  2. What good would applying for one of those spots be if it appears the decision for a name change has already been made? I would love to help out, I have helped MEMPHIS SOUND in more ways than one for a number of years, but keeping a few former members on staff and renaming the corps, after a move to Texas, is not the same Memphis Sound whose history so many of us had a part in creating - no matter which way you cut it, sorry. I fully support the move as long as it makes the corps a more viable and stable organization so don't mistake my words to mean anything less, however what sense would it make to support a corps, as an alumni, when it isn't even my corps anymore? Sure, helping out any corps, no matter the connection or not, is a great thing (I know); but when you're specifically reaching out to alumni for that help, is changing the name of their corps really the best way to get that help and/or thank them for it?
  3. "MYPAA", which is a whole other subject, could just as easily keep the name and still move the majority of it's operations to Texas. Does it look like you're doing a fine job getting more 'support' from Texas? Sure, good job and good luck, but that's no reason to completely alienate any connection to the Memphis-area. Speaking of support, you (Mr. Green) keep reaching out to alumni and asking for it - do you really think destroying the name of their corps, the corps some even spent 3-5 years with of it's 6-year exsistance, is the best way to accomplish that? I, and many others, have watched from the sideline as it appeared you were doing some great things for the corps - for the first time since Trey's departure - but if this press release goes through, I can guarantee you will lose a huge backing from those who have the most interest in the success of Memphis. And before anyone brings up name changes from The Cadets, The Magic, The Cascades, etc. then remind yourself what they all have in common - while their geographic connection may have been eliminated, the core of their name essentially remained the same.
  4. Not so fast. http://www.memphisdrumcorps.org/library/20...m&Staff.pdf They may as well just call the show "DID" and settle it. Although a bright spot, former staff (Michael McCray, Ryan Todd, etc.) now listed as consultants. Hopefully it's not too late. Eh... (*DID = Dissociative Identity Disorder, for the slow ones. )
  5. Ah, my hiatus from DCP...how I missed thee....surprisingly it's not even Tom Brace's posts that are most obnoxious this time, what has the world come to? How long have you even been involved with Memphis? If you don't want to answer here, then please do PM me - as per DCP guidelines, what's said in PM stays in PM. If it's anything more than this season so far, you obviously learned nothing while doing corps - what is your connection? You keep talking about "the kids", so a marching member seems unlikely unless you're one of the bitter tag-alongs he brought in 07...but who knows. Regardless, what you are doing is not "opening eyes", you are starting pointless drama and scaring away any support that there is or may be to come - albeit members marching or in other forms. Get over yourself. If people have questions about or for Memphis, they can and should contact someone AT Memphis. All they are seeing here in this forum is 1 side, your side, because you have completely hijacked the thread, disrespected one of the best Open Class directors around, thrown around baseless accusations and claimed YOU and only YOU know the full story. Give me a break. Honesty? Far from it. If "the kids" want honesty and they are worried about something not made public, then they know who to contact and it's certainly not some thread on DCP. You claim you want the best for Memphis? Then shut up and stop making it worse when it doesn't have to be, pretty simple. If you have concerns, take them to the board just like anyone else who might should do the same. And before anyone chimes in about how corps should be 'public' and 'out in the open', yes SOME things should - what this poster is doing does not fall under that category. If a possible supporter has questions about how their money will be used (not saying they should, but it was brought up here), THEN CONTACT THE CORPS. If a possible member has questions about how their "long summer" will be (not saying they should), THEN CONTACT THE CORPS. Wow, I feel like a broken record - did I mention people should contact the corps if they are worried? If Memphis has an announcement to make, they will make one. In closing: Just let the thread die, if you want to "get facts straight" for someone on here - PM them. If you think you have information someone should know, of course it's not official since you are clearly in no official capacity for the corps, then offer to let them PM you. But please, for all of us, if this is all you have to offer then let the thread die until some real, official news comes from Memphis as I'm sure it will soon enough.

  7. I had no idea the University of Wisconsin-Madison was actually located in Madison, California.
  8. Actually, the poster was correct in stating that the visual caption head left to work for Regiment - last year's caption head was Andrew Solomonson (a PR alum). Jason Younts was a member of Solomonson's staff last summer, and according to the website will be returning, however the announcement's wording is slightly misleading as he was not last year's caption head.
  9. Fail. But it's actually more like the administrative team running the food truck last summer, since volunteers seem to be hard to come by.
  10. Not Div. I, but Memphis Sound and Dutch Boy were housed in the same hotel I believe. Luckily Memphis was still able to win Div. III despite the back-and-forth rehearsal location, while Dutch Boy was able to bump up and secure the bronze. Must have been really nice rooms. B)
  11. Going off the top of my head and baring any mistakes... Memphis Sound - 1st year in Div. III 1st World Championship 1st year to win any caption awards* 1st year to break 90 1st year for guard to get Box 5 1st year for all 3 captions to break Box 5 in the same show 1st year to win Jackson, TN Div. II/III home show Highest score in corps history (91.525) Highest placement in corps history - 5th overall (*I'm assuming caption awards are based on finals scores and I'm reading the recaps correctly?) -------- *Almost* an undefeated season, but Revolution gave them that little 16-point-jump-in-2-days scare back in early July. B) Not bad for a corps' 5th year anniversary, let alone a corps that was so close to not seeing the summer take place. Also along the same lines, I'm not sure if it's been done before so it could be a "1st" by any corps type thing, but this year marks the 4th year in a row that Memphis Sound has won best DM in their division. Quite an accomplishment and a sign of great leadership year to year coming from the podium.
  12. I believe he was referring to the post asking about the meaning of '901', not to your post about Spartans' guard score. B)
