  1. Yeah!! LOL! I wonder were they got all the Tubas at??
  2. I know his price is crazy. No 2 valve Contra is worth 1000 dollars. I bought a Magnum 3 Valve for 1250 5 Months ago, and it was almost new..
  3. At least the Bb Horns hold their value better than the Bugles.
  4. Have fun getting parts! Might not even be brass under that chrome.. Pot metal Junk!! <**>
  5. Yeah I know a guy with a 14 foot box truck full of 2 valve and Valve Rotor Stuff Plus Guard and Drum Equipment. I've offered to buy him out but he is holding on like he's actually going to do something with it.. Maybe I should Talk to his wife.. ^0^
  6. I still use the Olds Ambassador that I learned on.. Blends in good, nice valve action, and it bounces when you drop it! Parts are plentiful, not to mention cheap. Since I collect Olds I am a little partial to them. They made great horns.. I'm not really hard corps into the high brass. But I have had the chance to play lots of different equipment. And you are right, some horns work better than others for some folks. I just reminded myself to call the shop to see if they got an estimate ready for the repairs on my Olds Concert Tuba. I still want to find a Olds Marching Baritone Bb, and a 2 Valve Ultratone II Contra. F.E. Olds & Son
  7. Get a Bach Strad 43 Most of the pros use just a standard Strad 43.. Great horn and if you shop it right you can get them for about 1500 and change..
  8. I think the same goes for the folks in the Philippines.
  9. I'm learning why the Dynasty bugles are getting a bad wrap.. Mainly due to corps buying horns from one corps some from another, and so on.. A matched set of Dynastys tune and play good together. Kanstuls are a little easier to tune with different vintaged bugles. The Dynastys tend to play on the flat side and the Kanstuls tend to play Sharp so mixing them doesn't always work out.. The valves on the dynastys aren't built better than the others. But they aren't as likely to stick, like the Kanstuls and Yamahas do. I still haven't figured that one out yet.
  10. My Contra and I would love to march with you folks.. Maybe if I hit the powerball!
  11. I wish Brenda the best of luck. If you get it off the ground shoot me an email, and if I have the time, I'll sit in.. :) Give my contra a taste of Crossmen!
  12. Reilly's Standard Parade tunes are. Danny Boy, Kerry Dancers, Great day for the Irish, Wearing of the green, Yankee doodle, Grand ole Flag, Hooten's Herd, My Romance.. I've got a bookful more too This is just a sample... Normally we won't do more than 4 songs per parade. Sometimes we'll do something special for the Judges Stand depends on the parade.
  13. I guess they like to spend money...
  14. I have an Olds Ultratone II 2 Valve I'm very happy with.. I will get myself a kanstul Soprano one of these days...
  15. There was just one on eBay a few weeks ago.
  16. Even comparing side by side a Marching Trumpet and a Soprano Bugle. They are VERY Different, not just in key. The leadpipe and main slide on a bugle (Kanstul or Deg) is wrapped more like some high end and artist series Cornets Like the Olds Super Star Cornets of the Late 60's and Early 1970's. You can almost mistake them at a glance for a Soprano. The slides for each valve on a bugle are about 20% longer than a trumpet And the bells are a bit larger or more French Trumpet in Style. Basically shaped more like a Cone than a Bell.
  17. Just like don't call my Contra a Tuba, Or My Tuba a Sousaphone..
  18. That horn was almost mint..
  19. When new Contras are pushing $7000 or more each. You can have the worst horn Completely overhauled for about 2 grand - 2500 dollars. And it will look and play like a new horn. A minor overhaul 75-80 % of the dents and dings without any major plating work can cost as little as 300 - 500 dollars. Where again is the cost savings?? Those corps can sell me all those G Bugles For what they are getting in trade. I know many corps that will give them another 20 or more years of good solid use that will gladly buy them up as fast as they come in..
  20. Even Comparing the major Brands in Marching brass Dynasty, King, Yamaha, Kanstul.. Kanstul is actually priced really competitivly.. The Fit and Finish on the kanstul's are really good, and they will stand behind their product. I just think Zig is afraid of what olds and king went through giving financing to corps. Yamaha's marching brass is very good. I used a YSH-411S The Hight end Silver BBb Sousaphone in high school Other then the Plastic Valve guide issue they are a heck of a nice sousaphone. The YBB-201MS That most corps use, used to have same problem. Yamaha redesigned the valve guide which you can buy on eBay from Seller: bandroom1 it will hold up a bit better than the older style. As much as I like Zig's , and Yamaha's horns Both Concert/Marching Brass and Bugles, However I'm a fan on having older horns redone, and using them, Like the Olds' and Older King's, Conn's, Bach.. ETC. They are built a little better, and even if the horn has some age showing. It shows the horn has at least been played. The older horns like the new ones can be overhauled again and again. These corps buying new horns every couple years almost makes me want to puke. What a waste of good money. They could get 3 or 4 Contras Completely overhauled for the cost of one brand new horn.. Sickening
  21. Exactly!! And for girls its like free collagen Injections without the needles!! Instant donkey lips!
  22. I know Olds' (California Olds) Used to make mellophones in F with an optional Eb main slide. I think you're right I don't think anyone made a Bb mellophone.
  23. Spirit of Newark is still G - Div III DCI , All of the Alumni Stage/Parade corps I know of use G, I think Skyliners field corps is still G too. A lot of G bugle corps still left out there.
