  1. I can't claim to be a strong soprano, but I'm a soprano....and I'll be there. :)

Somebody make me an offer...I want this thing out of my house! I don't have room for it any more!

  4. Nah...it wouldn't be a productive use of anybody's time in this forum. I hope it helps. With brass playing, though, there are so many different things to do. Frustratingly, some things seem to work/help one person while doing nothing, or even being a detrement, to the next. I hope it works and is something you can pass along. I don't agree with you here. In my opinion, the warm up is not where you learn to do anything...it isn't to build anything. This could simply be a matter of semantics or we could actually have differing opinions. I know what works to build range, and I don't consider any of it something I would do until after being warm. The same goes for articulation, endurance, finger speed or speed of tonguing. My opinion: You warm up and then you practice (build endurance, build range, improve tone, articulation, technique). You can't effectively do one before the other. If that's what works for you in your warm ups, then that's great. I see some similarities in what you have listed and in what I do. I stretch my face and flap out my chops.....you play pedal tones. Both get the blood flowing....although I would not recommend pedal tones being the first thing played, that's just a matter of opinions. I do my little interval exercise.....you do lip slurs. Both get the chops flexible. The other things you have listed are all fine if they work for you. The great thing about trumpet playing is that there are so many different techniques, ideas, equipment and styles out there, that it is virtually impossible for the serious and interested musician to fail. With serious study, examination and discipline, any of us can be much better than we currently are. Take Care,
  5. "Just put the horn on the lips and play." (Quote and philosophy of Maurice André..who's better than both of us) The purpose of a warm up is to get you ready to play. Anything beyond getting sufficient blood in your lips to play the horn is practice. My warm-up consists of some light facial stretching before I come into contact with the horn and then a couple of 2nd line Gs. I then play a G-G#-G-A-G-Bb-G-B-G-Middle C at a mezzo-piano....C-C#-C-D-C-D#-C-E-C-F-C-F#-C-G at a mezzo-forte....and then continue in the same pattern, at forte, G-G#-G-A-G-Bb-G-B-High C. Then I'll play a quick couple of arpeggios and I'm ready to practice or perform. In personal life, this isn't a problem. However, occasionally, with smaller start-up groups who put people in front of the horn line who really shouldn't be there, you get people who play through the Blue Devils Dynasty of Brass because that's a good "warm-up" in their opinion. This is simply ignorance of good instruction, brass playing and the purpose of a corps hornline warm up. This, however, is not related to the questions you asked...and you are in Tennessee, so you don't have to worry about idiots in front of hornlines. :)
  6. My wife and I left McComb, MS last Sunday because I knew we'd lose power for a good deal of time and with her being 8 1/2 months pregnant I knew she couldn't do without air for an extended period of time. We headed to her sister's in Arkansas. Got a report of two trees down in our yard and lots of shingles missing off of the house. Some power was restored in McComb yesterday. Have heard reports that Hattiesburg is pretty bad, with some of the same desperate actions happening there as in New Orleans and on the Gulf Coast. Hwy. 49 is closed from the coast to Hattiesburg to all civilian traffic. Camp Shebly, MS is being used as a staging area for all military assistance being provided to the Gulf region. My unit has been activated for assisting in the cleanup/recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast. So, I'll be seeing things firsthand pretty soon. For anybody trying to reach people in the affected areas...for some reason text messages on cell phones are going through with a little more reliability than are phone calls. Everybody be safe.

  13. This is most likely a matter of legality. I have loads of old scores, but I'm not going to attempt to sell them, because someone else wrote them. It's not an issue of plagiary, but one of copyright. The people who arrange or write for drum corps are doing so either as their living or to supplement their income. Now...what do you think they'd do if drum corps joe tries to sell a copy of one of their scores? Now, trading is something altogether different....

  19. 2 King K-90 Contras for Sale for $750 each (shipping additional). If you're within a managable distance, I'll drive them to you or meet you halfway if you prefer to shipping. These horns are in fantastic playing shape. There are normal dents and dings associated with contras. The finish on the bells are in perfect condition. These horns have never been overhauled, so there's no worry of thinned out brass anywhere on the horn (it's true...shiny isn't always better). Email for pictures.

  21. If you have something worthy of trade I could send it as a PDF, yes. As stated earlier in the thread, I will gladly trade scores for scores. PS - you misspelled your corps name (BRACKEN CAVALIERS)
  22. You are quite correct. Permission must be granted by the arranger to use a piece on the field.
