  1. Just wanted to send our congrats to Gold and their strong finish at DCA. Never did make it down their in the past, but hope to make a practice or two over the winter. Wishing you continued success in the coming years. Mike Clougher Manville Crusaders 71-73 Sunrisers 76-80,92,93,96
  2. They did sound more like an orchestra than a "hornline", that sums it up best. They specialized in balance and control better than anyone to date. Again, just my opinion. Mike C
  3. As I said, if you haven't heard them you really should. I still feel they were the best "hornline" in DCA to date. That's not to say there have not been some great one's both before and after, but I feel they had the best balance & dynamics of anyone I've heard. I'm sure there are people who may not agree, but I stood in front of that line and WOW! Mike Clougher Sunrisers Sop line 76-80,92,93 &96
  4. Sorry I can not agree with you on the 81 thing. I was a member of Sun's hornline in 80(and long before ) and followed very close the 81 season. For me, the best hornline I have ever heard in DCA to date (and most DCI years) was the 1980 Reading line. Great balance, Great show. True pros at dynamics. To anyone whose never heard them, I suggest you get a copy. I still listen to them today and just shake my head.
  5. Terry: Need your e-mail address. E-mail me @ sunsop76@cs.com. We can set up a meet for Friday night and go from there. Still waiting to hear from Ray.
  6. That would mean all Sunrisers up to 1977 would have been rookies. Someone want to tell Frank D that?
  7. Hey! My rookie year was 76! But then again, I AM old. Also did the 92 rookie runthrough.
  8. That's the RIGHT answer Tony. They added more in the years after us.
  9. Hey Tex! How's it going? Patty & Ray Sean (Jean's son) Tom: you ARE allowed to teach Battle Hymn-go for it. Good Luck this weekend everyone. Wish we could be there but we will be thinking about you's guys. The World is Waiting for the SUNRISE!!!! Have a BLAST Be Proud-Play Loud Mike, Aileen & Sean
  10. Not to shun you John C. but I've seen you march and have marched with you so nothing new there! :P
  11. Me too! I do hope the corps will learn BOBO. THAT is a 40yr "tradition" that should be kept. Along with Battle Hymn.
  12. Thanks Terri, marching with you and Chris is a big reason why Aileen and I had fun also! Looking forward to seeing you guys at the end of July. I just wish Sun were in that show. Would like to get a chance to see my nephew and Aileen's nephew marching together.
  13. Just wanted to wish this years group of Sunrisers the very best this season. Have been looking through the posts here and it looks like you guys are just having fun. That's what this is all about. You can talk about "tradition" all you want but the Sunrisers are about Family and Fun. That was the "tradition" I learned. I joined in the mid-seventies when we were "changing" the traditions of the greats who came before us. When I came back in the 90's, things had changed again. My two favorite seasons were 78 & 96. A lot of time between them and two very different corps, but the "family & work ethics " were the same and the fun was there. The one thing we "old guys" would ask is that you ALWAYS keep your heads up, and be proud! Sun was never about winning or placement. It is about doing the best you can, hard work, and making friends that will last a lifetime. Sorry to be so long winded, but we wanted you to know we are with you 110% in mind and spirit and support the "new breed" with all our hearts. Work hard, have fun and build memories you will NEVER forget. Thank you for keeping our dreams alive. Good Luck! Mike Clougher Sop line-76-80,92,93,96 Front line-81,82,83,89,90 (all part time)
  14. Chris Wherever you are right now, you must GET NAKED!
  15. After the 77 DCA, Sky and Sun did not get along all that well until a hot Sunday afternoon in Booton, NJ in "81". There was no retreat that day so corps started to party after their performance. While Sky was on the field, someone from Sun yelled something not to complementary from the stands. Of course Sky took offence to this and after the show, some words, hands and beer bottles were exchanged. It was all over in about five minutes. I think all the other corps left ASAP so they would not "get involved". That left just Sky and Sun in the parking lot. Well, both corps moved over to the bar across the street and had one of the most knock down drag them out parties I have ever been to. That built a friendship between the two corps that I think still exists today.
