  1. Xandandl: That's brilliant! I think I just found multiple ways to contact her. Thanks for the tip!
  2. Hi Ghost. I sent a message to Michael Bouchard of that site earlier. But I see the site hasn't been updated in years so I don't know if anyone will ever get back to me from 27thlancers.org. :-(
  3. Hi guys. I wish I had the legacy set of DVDs and a red set of drums! I was friends with Rick Hagey, who passed away a few years ago. Back when we were both in the Bridgemen Alumni, he offered me his '94 uniform. It felt wrong to accept his offer since I was never a member of 2-7. Now all these years later, I wish I'd accepted his offer. #### IT, how shortsighted of me! Do you know anyone who still has their 2-7 uni that you can contact?
  4. I’m working on illustrations for an animation that's a self promo. I have some scenes planned out, a series of comical skits, that take place in England. I want a parade unit to walk by and I want that unit to be the 27th Lancers. England + 27th Lancers = perfect together! To pull this off, I’d need a few seconds of film of someone in a 2-7 uniform walking (with the roll step technique) holding a soprano/trumpet or mellophone. But he or she needs to be filmed at a particular angle (a "three quarter" view) to fit the scene. I'd like to feature the 1980ish hornline uniform or the 1994 Reunion uni. Please reply to help me recreate 2-7 playing “Crown Imperial” in my animation! Jim Reilly Brooklyn, New York
  5. Everyone? A nice "golf clap" for Marwan please? Every so often, he earns his keep.
  6. So what show highlights do yous yellow-coaters have in store for us? I've yet to make it into Bayonne to get a sneak peek at this year's show!
  7. Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone! Make the most of your practice schedule and parades. And remember to make June 14th a fun night out in Bayonne, NJ!
  8. Tournament of Stars is just 4 weeks away. There's nothing like opening the season in Bayonne!
  9. How'd the opener ("Shaft") sound? Jerome needs to pay off George to have chicks dance around him as he plays the solo!
  10. True dat. A second-generation Bridgemen knows the details! The Bridgemen have gone through several incarnations through the years, but have always had a wicked commitment to entertaining audiences.
  11. George means that the St. Andrews Bridgemen wore Selden's uniform style from 1968-1975! Well... minus 1970. $1 to Mary Cerreta for the history lesson! I'm looking forward to Tournament of Stars in 7 weeks. What a GREAT line-up of corps and a chance to see my buds in Bayonne!
  12. Thanks for all the kind words. It means a lot to us that 27th Lancers alumni and fans love our tribute to 2-7. I was a big fan of the Lancers before I ever wore a yellow coat. It was a privelege to get a piece of the action on "Danny Boy," a drum corps classic. George Bonfiglio has a big heart and went out of his way to help the activity. Back in 1981, Bobby Hoffman told us that 2-7 had loaned us money so we could host our "Tournament of Stars" home show at the level we wanted. George is a class act and I'm happy he also got to relive his glory days with our show! Photo courtesy of John Nadrowski's Bridgemen Tribute Site.
  13. The Bridgemen are staying at the Ocean View Motel. The view of the ocean IS gorgeous. We're practicing in a section of Maxwell Field (located at 4000 Park Blvd, Wildwood, NJ) from 12 - 4:30. Hope to see you there!
  14. The stands are right up close to the performers, allowing for a more intimate connection between audience and performer. And Wildwood spectators sure know how to make the Bridgemen feel welcome! Can't wait to play for such an appreciative audience again this weekend.
  15. Go euphoniums! Hey.... bad publicity is still publicity! Pictured: lead baritones (euphoniums) take a "5 yard penalty" from George "The Referee" Ruse for a "false start." Pictured: Sopranos showing off during "Ritual Fire Dance." Pictured: Snares laying down some wicked rhythms during "My Favorite Things." Pictured: "Elderly" Bridgemen need walkers to pull off the "Bottle Dance." Pictured: Flags show off their groove during "In The Stone." 16. Fran, it was great to finally meet your wife Barbara in Bayonne at Tournament of Stars. Just a few weeks ago we were laughing and having a great time as we were getting caught up. It's sad how quickly things can change. I'll be praying for Barb's wonderful smile to return.
  17. So Jimmer, where was the 13th Regiment at TOS? I thought they'd make an unscheduled apprearance! Say, don't these two guys look like Rick Tabor and Jim Jordan!?

  20. Thanks to everyone who helped make Tournament of Stars (TOS) a spectacular day for everyone who came out! John Nadrowski's Bridgemen Tribute Site has LOTS of photos of the Bridgemen and the other corps that performed at TOS! Tournament of Stars lived up to its promise! June 23, 2007 Our backfield warm-up, led by drum major Brian Law, got us in the spirit of things. Soon we were facing forward and the crowd sat down to take in our show. The rifle line had center stage in front, wearing stylish blue outfits that paid tribute to the 1978 show's line, while updating it to modern sensibilities. Drum major Jim Jordan set the show in motion: the opening "Fanfare" statement from the large hornline (in one hug arc), opened the crowd's eyes to the firepower this hornline had in store for them. "Ritual Fire Dance/Sabre Dance," delivered on our promise that we're Raising the Bar this year: its challenging technical passages and constant momentum kept the audience wondering what could possibly be next? Kevin Serfass commented that being surrounded by so many seasoned players who could ace the fast-paced sixteenth-note parts in "Sabre Dance," with laser precision was the highlight of the show for him. The mellophones played their hearts out with demanding phrases that delivered trills and high notes with clarity and zeal. The drumline had a piece of the action as their exotic rhythms kept a driving undercurrent to this masterpiece. The color guard whipped their colorful flame flags around in lightning-fast movements that embodied the frantic emotion of "Ritual." Rob Hunter's solo cut through the many-layered harmonies to keep the mysterious mood prevalent, then the final stacatto strikes of the closing phrases brought our volume level to bear as the crowd applauded wildly. Next, we played the first part of our new "Greatest Moments in Drum Corps History" series as we resurrected a cherished St. Andrew's chart from the good old days. Drum Major John Richard got to lead the way in the triple-tonguing soprano spectacular of "Mr. Clown," which showcased what first made the Bridgemen a contender on the big stage. The color guard made good use of their new gold & black checkered flags, in a tip of the hat to the early 1970s Bridgemen. 23. After the show, paaaaaaaaarty at the VFW Post! Post Commander Glen Flora welcomes the Bridgemen and any drum corps nuts who want to have a good time while in Bayonne. The Post is now roomier and features warm food, cold drinks and the hospitality of your hosts. Plus there's now some impressive military displays chronicling the proud participation of Bayonne's citizens in armed conflicts. Rub elbows with other corps fans before you leave Bayonne! 24. I saved the master for last.... Spotlight on a Visionary Behind the Bridgemen Legacy Did You Know.... Bobby Hoffman, the creative genius behind the Bridgemen makeover in 1976, was once a timbale drummer for the Hawthorne Caballeros? Bobby performed with the famed Hawthorne Caballeros senior corps, back in in the day. The Cabs were perhaps the ultimate showmen of the era with their aggressive, entertaining shows. It's safe to say Bobby learned a little something about soaking up the crowd's approval with one of the most appealing corps of the day! Bobby went on to teach the Hawthorne Muchachos, Garfield Cadets, Anaheim Kingsmen, Blue Stars, Bridgemen, Velvet Knights, plus numerous senior corps & marching bands, in a stellar career that spanned decades. Bobby revolutionized drum corps with his innovative approach to shows during the Bridgemen's golden years as a junior corps. His legacy lives on to this day in all the marching performers who have dared to follow in the footsteps of great showmanship. The Bridgemen Alumni Corps tips our hat to the wizard behind Bridgemen magic. And for catapulting Bayonne into the spotlight since 1976. Bobby's resume: Marching drum corps experience: Bergenfield Ravens - Tenor drum (aka Dumont Police Cadets) St. Anne's Cadets - Tenor drum (circa 1954) Hawthorne Caballeros - Timbale drum (early 1960s) Drillwriting/teaching experience: Hawthorne Muchachos indoor guard and corps (late 1960s) Garfield Cadets (early 1970s) Anaheim Kingsmen (1973-1974) Blue Stars (1975) Bridgemen junior corps (1976-1982, 1985) Velvet Knights (1987-1988, 1990) Trivia: What did Bobby's tattoo say? Catch all the talent that will thrill audiences at Tournament of Stars on Saturday, June 23rd!
  25. Bayonne-ese This visit to Bayonne will be a great opportunity for you to practice your mastery of the Bayonne accent. You many think you're a little rusty, but it comes back quickly. Here's some phrases and appropriate responses to help you while you're in God's country. "I ain't got none. Buzz off!" This was an adult's response to a child's request for a cigarette. It translates to "I don't have any. Perhaps you might try elsewhere. An appropriate comment to the adult might be, "Da noive uh dat kid. Now if he'd aksed fer a swig uh my Rheingold, dat's diff'rint." "$2.86 a gallon!? Holy #@$& I hit da jackpot!" Yes, the gasoline certainly is more affordable at the Getty station on Ave. C & 49th Street. This Jersey City resident's comment translates to "The petrol certainly is cheap. MY, this is my lucky day." You should advise the local, "Fillin' up dem Starbucks cups wit gas too ain't smart. If ya spills it while ya drivin', you'll stink like Yankee Stadium's bat'rooms." "I ain't hoid nuttin' 'bout dat. Whattya kiddin' me!?" This was the reaction to news that a captured Red Sox fan was set free after tense negotiations. The phrase translates to "I had not heard any such thing. Are you joshing?" An appropriate comment might be, "Eh, dem Red Sox fans. Ain't no toleratin' 'em since da univois got toined on its head back in oh faw." "Dem Bridgemen is paradin' down Broadway in dem fancy yelluh coats." People may get their wires crossed because they're used to seeing us in the local parades. Smile and reply, "Nah, dey're at Ve'trins Stadium today. Fer fifteen bucks ya getcha face tore off by all dem loud hornlines & ya see chicks in tight outfits. It's a bargain!" Amen bruddah. Please have a pleasant stay while in Bayonne, NJ and enjoy the hospitality that Bayonne offers. Thank you.
