  1. Sounds hot! Thanks for sharing. Calvin GO SCOUTS!
  2. Wow...thanks for all the great input!!! Fun discussion with something for everyone. A little drama and name-calling from Jason, and a little piece of reason from Fincis. A discussion on race relations along with a spelling lesson (ebonics). Although I still need to look 'lulz' up. We had a disagreement on the order of finish in 07 (my fault for getting off topic on that one), and, Scott Stewart even came up in this topic. Shout out to Scott!! Love ya! Whew, all that was GREAT! Really. What I initially was looking for was people's thoughts about the best 4th place corps. You all have some great choices. Thanks! I haven't thought about, or listened to, many of these in awhile. So here's a rundown of those corps mentioned - so far!!! I'll see if I can figure out how to do a poll. We've had the following corps 4th place finish mentioned -in no particular order: Garfield 99 Madison 95 PR 07 PR 03 Spirit 80 Madison 78 SCV 00 SCV 01 BD 92 BD 93 PR 82 PR 83 PR 84 (from Garry in Vegas!!) Props to SCV 91 Madison 85 My top three are Madison 95, PR 07, Madison 78 ....Garfield 99 and PR 03 are 4 and 5. I'd like to hear what it was that you thought was great about a particular show and maybe where you thought they should have placed. For instance, I love PR 07 and say they should have won...realistically I think they could have grabbed second. The hornline was so powerful and rich. They were beautiful on the field and gave a very complete presentation. The show just flowed and progressed. They built tension and drove tunes. Great soloists. Refreshing approach to drill that blended old and new (see last set...... AWESOME!!!!) I don't know if that description really conveyed the show, but i'm hoping that if you saw it you might know what I'm talking about. I can't wait to hear what people say about Madison 95....There's so much to love in that one. What a freaking horline!!! Those soloists were smokin!!!! WALL OF SOUND!!! and that's just talking about the horline. Malaga, done by Madison in 95, has got to be one the best closers ever! Again...thanks to everyone who's chimed in. Keep it up!!! Wazzzup, Pilot?!?! Good to see you, bro!!! (on-line anyway). Calvin GO SCOUTS!
  3. Good call, maniac. I'll watch BD and PR again and see if see/hear a lack of passion. I wasn't at the show in CA. but had seen them both live (at least I think I saw BD last year...maybe not). Anyway, I didn't notice anything lacking from PRs hornline...so I'll listen for that too. I'm not trying to knock BD at all. I loved the show. I also can't argue with your opinion of Cavies drill....i'd like to see something different, too. Having said that, I still think they were awesome and the drill really fit the music, presentation and it allowed for a great visual package, as we have come to expect from the Green Machine!
  4. I'll have to find a copy of '00 SCV. A few people have mentioned that show. Can't say I've seen it. I do remember the Cavies' Niagara show that year was da bomb!
  5. 80 Spirit!! Excellent!! Again with the 95 Scouts! LOVE IT!!! Might I propose the 1978 Scouts show? They finished 4th behind classic BD and SCV shows, and PR playing Firebird Suite (for the first time?). Scouts played Star Wars!!! Although, *cough, cough* I could have lived without the "How Deep Is Your Love" disco homage.
  6. Very, very good top 5 in 2003. Loved PRs opener!! And I can't tell you how much I still love watching and/or listening to Madison 95. Superb soloists! Many, many, many goosebump moments!
  7. You don't have to be sorry. You certainly aren't alone. I just think PR and Cavies had the best shows last year and PR's gorgeous sound put them over the top for me. The hornline from PR and the drill from Cavies did it for me more than the hornline for BD or the drill from Garfield. I think the guard in each of the top 5 corps was outstanding! ...BD and PR were two of my favorite, and Cavies guard was incredible!!! As for the GC, I thought the performance was great...it was, for me, the distraction from the narration that dropped them from my number 1 or 2. And ya can't argue that BD shouldn't have won. They were friggin great! But visually (drill) I didn't think they were up to speed with Cavies or Cadets. Just as I don't think PR's drill was as great as Cavies or Cadets. It was an incredibly competitive year among the top 5, then the next 2-3 and then the next 4-6. 8. Garfield 99! ...good call!!! Awesome show! I think that's also the year I really liked the Madison show - Jesus Christ Superstar - that took 6th.
  9. It's a tough call. An argument can be made for BD, and I even said that minus the distracting vocals Garfield has a claim to the title - heck, even with the flippin vocals they had a claim. They were gooooooooood! I just don't see how PR was a point and a half down in visual effect. The drumline was HOT and was only overshadowed by the best (imo) hornline on the field that night - that season! WOW! WOW! WOW! Phantom simply rocked! As for the Cavies, I thought they had the best drill out there - bar none! ...and that was huge for me. There was some top-notch drill writing 1-12, but especially from 1-7. Also, Cavies had a fantastic arrangement of Billy 'freakin' Joel music and absolutely OWNED it! A real PRESSURE performance. They were ferocious! I stand with PR, Cavies, as 1-2 with Garfield, SCV and BD soooo close. No more than 2 points separating these 5 and certainly no more than .5 in any one caption. (Ok, SCV might trade places with BD on my list, but not by much. I loved the show ....and the cymbal line being featured so prominently). Calvin GO SCOUTS!
  10. Ok, I just finished watching the top 12 dci videos from 07....up top video (I love the up top camera view!!!). Anyone else think the judges were napping when they scored PR's Visual Effect? I think they could be the best 4th place finisher in dci history. My personal top 12 placement for 2007: PR, Cavies, Garfield (might be 1st minus the talking), SCV, BD, Carolina, Bluecoats, Crusaders, Colts, Spirit, Blue Knights, Blue Stars. (I would have the top 5 scored very, very close). Back on topic: what other INCREDIBLE shows took 4th place at Finals? Right away Madison 95 comes to mind. WOW!!! What a show that was!!! One would be hard-pressed to convince me they were the 4th place corps that year. Admittedly there were three very good corps placed ahead of them, but it's tough to see, or hear, where the Scouts came up in 4th - in any caption in 1995. Any other great 4th place corps you can think of? BTW - Congratulations to Steve Vickers on being inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame! He's done - and continues to do - great things for drum and bugle corps. Calvin GO SCOUTS!
  11. Right on, Weedy! 2008 is gonna be a great year and a great experience for you. Something similar happend to me in the early 80s. I was marching Americanos for a couple years and I was a huge Garfield fan....but hadn't really seen the Scouts. Then in 84 I saw them... in Menasha... and that was all she wrote! The block entry; the military discipline...it just blew me away. And that was before they played note one. To this day, the Scouts' closer in 84 (Cats!) is, in my opinion, the very best in drum corps history. Nothing, again in my opinion, compares to the 1984 re-entry in Cats. Just awesome! To all: if you've never listened to the Scouts 84 closer, do youself a favor and check it out! Anyway, thirdcoast asked for stories, so....that's my story and I'm stickin to it! See at Jan. Camp, Weedy! Later- "Calvin" GO SCOUTS!
  12. Oops! Actually it was I, Calvin, who posted the origins of "hear, hear" in response to thirdcost's skepticism of it's spelling. Don't even ask how THAT happend.
