  1. That fat man with the ugly shirt and way too high socks (although, I guess it was not too stupid to wear them that way 15 years ago.......ok, maybe it was).......is indeed I. Doing what I always do best.......standing around taking credit for other people's work. Thanks Jerome! Peace, Dennis
  2. 92? 94?? With scores that high, what is going to happen in Rochester??? That Brass judge does not know what he is doing!!
  3. C'mon Chris......you have to be a lock for the gig!
  4. From left to right: Jeff Mitchell, Al DiCroce, Jim Dugan and Joe Exley. ...........What? It's not?
  5. This one I finally know! Standing (from left to right): Ed Hayes, Billy Spiegler, Ponzo, Denis Tremblay Kneeling: James Coolbaugh, Roland Garceau 1995 DCA Finals.
  6. Hasn't water always been allowed in DCA? Think back to Rochester 06.
  7. So it's all about the name of the horn? Yeah, I guess the drummer thing is pretty self-explanatory. Silly me.
  8. Why is it that the drummers don't seem to have as much of a problem with it ('it' being the adaptation of their instruments) as us 'bugle' players? Just wonderin'.
  9. This might be a bigger bone of contention for me than any other when it comes to brass playing. Why is it that we try and make things so difficult? It's as if the Knights Templar are hiding the secret to brass pedagogy..... Technique is not warm up. You warm up to get ready to rehearse and/or perform. An athlete does not practice his/her 'technique' before a game. They stretch etc. to get physically and mentally ready for the task(s) at hand. You want to build endurance? Play for longer periods of time. Push yourself past your comfort thresholds each day. By the end of a week you should be/could be playing up to an hour longer with strength. By the end of a month.....of a year....etc. You want to play higher? Practice high notes and build that area. These are not 'warm ups.' This is technique. You warm up. Then you rehearse, practice and/or perform your technique. Or am I crazy? Peace, Dennis
  10. Not that big a deal. Way back in the day when bugles added keys or valves (when men were men.....and sheep were nervous!) the folks that played the horns without them pined for the 'good old days.' The 'G' people flipped with multikey (although I am still waiting for someone to use a D trumpet!.....c'mon, I dare ya!) One day we will most likely look back with a tear trying to remember when it used to be all brass, or all acoustic, or all human! Who knows? That's why this kind of forum is great! Stay in touch with the past so we remember who we are, where we came from and from there we can all have a better grasp of where it is we are possibly going. Some of us don't have to go along for the ride, but just remember, nobody likes a backseat driver. Peace, Dennis
  11. Best of luck Hurcs! Some great staff members up there doing their thing! Should be a great season! Peace, Dennis
  12. Eh.....it ain't me. I ain't that old......and I was NEVER that thin.
