  1. yeah I know, it was a sarcasm. Their words, my feelings.
  2. Haha, I agree, there were some pretty awful sounds coming out of those horns! :)
  3. I would agree, I'm really looking forward to what I'm sure will be quite an outstanding show.
  4. So I've enjoyed reading these posts for some time. All I want to say is I personally know the brass caption head at the Cavaliers and if you only knew the musical approach they took there you'd be singing a different tune. For some of those guys who've been marching for a couple years, they've received some of the highest musical training available. Or maybe one of you would like to play an eight count concert F for them and have some one point out a minimum ten things wrong with it. From knowing David, I know that's how his students learn. Yeah, it's a different ball club there. Criticize it all you like but when it comes down to it, your ears probably just aren't developed in the ways theirs are to recognize the greatness they achieve. This isn't a personal jab or anything, more of general statement.
  5. what?!?! two words: Diamond cutter! How does Cadets 2000 drill qualify as being harder than Cavaliers??? That's some of the best drill ever written in my opinion.
  6. I don't know. I've been a big fan of Cadets' ballads for the past few years. Okay actually just 02 and 05. I'm sure they'll do some cool stuff with this one, but it's kind of harmonically boring. just a lot of suspensions and whatnot. I don't know... I'll have to see it in August to make a final judgement.
  7. This is a little known fact, but if you check scores throughout the season, the Cavaliers didn't lose brass at all or even tie brass till August 7. That was at the Cadets home show to the Cadets and was the last show before finals week. They also won brass on semifinals night. In response to the chord thing, go watch the DVD's again and look at field placement. I could be wrong but the Cavaliers opening chord may sound a little top heavy because the trumpets are right behind the pit and the mics may have picked them up more. Just a guess. I don't know for sure. The Cavaliers chord also does have triple tonguing in it. Just some thoughts.
  8. Education or performance? Depends on the corps and what they're out there for.... a few corps, I won't name who, emphasize winning so much. I would say it's about performance there. I also know of a couple groups who rarely talk about winning but happen to do very very well in the competitive ranks. So, my answer is simply: It depends on the corps.
